Hello Layth Lane,

Been there.. done all that...
Except mine is two six-cylinders sharing the same
crank-shaft... (1995 XJS V-12 Conv. (I do love it)).

My engine needed (and I gave it) a REAL GOOD
going over... but nothing helped...

I finally caved and took it in for replacement
of that collapsed CATALYTIC CONVERTOR...
(rotted out MUFFLER is very same issues).

No matter how hard anyone pushes
OXYGEN SENSORS... resist (they only report
the news (same as buying a NEW thermometer
because you have a COLD))...

I surrendered to Cole European... Walnut
Creek California... ("Lesnick" Lane... SPELLING
really does not matter... I'd sooner drive down the
PENNINSULA to "PUTNAM" and let them SCUFF
a large POTATO sized hole in the paint off a brand
new of the FRONT BUMPER (again))...

Cole.... (Still)

WEEKS later (I think: Cole European)
they stumbled over blocked exhaust... took it to
a local MUFFLER SHOP... (pretty sure (opinion))
added a THOUSAND DOLLARS to their cost...
Gave it back with bird and tree droppings all over it...
and missing a GOLF-BALL sized swatch of paint from
the left front wheel trim... (in my opinion: real slice).

At least they didn't damage (bugr-up) the interior...

Check out the prices of exhaust parts (by state)
BEFORE going in for "PROFESSIONAL" grade
help...

Save your money...
(at least know your WORST CASE costs)
2004 JAGUAR TYPE 3 0L V6 Catalytic Converter RockAuto

Happy hunting...!!

Random misfires is from
low fuel pressure
. ECM fault
possible cam/ crank position sensor faults
loose harness connections , bad ground point
Mostly low fuel pressure from a faulty pressure regulator so start your checks in that area

Have you pulled out the spark plugs to see if there are any tell tale signs on them. They are a good indicator of many problems that occur and can save a lot of time isolating the problem. They should all be the same colour. Is the air box and lid properly secured with no leaks or splits in the intake tube.Have you put injector cleaner in the fuel tank to clear up any possible dirty injectors.Therse a few things your problem could be including engine vacuum leak which you can find by lightly spraying carburettor cleaner around suspect places such as inlet manifold and around injector seals.

SOURCE: RAN OUT OF GAS NOW IT IDLES REAL BAD

With electric pumps, when you run them dry it can damage them. You may have just picked up some rust or stuff sitting in the bottom of the tank. This could be clogging your fuel supply. several things can be done, if so equipped have the injectors cleaned, add a fuel cleaner to your tank such as seafoam, change fuel filters. If it were me I would start with the seafoam, than filter or filters. Than you may consider checking fuel pressure. Just somewhere to start good luck

SOURCE: runs real rough up to 1500 rpm and dont hardly idle

Change your fuel filter for starters. I'm assuming you keep up with tune ups so plugs and wires wouldn't be the issue. If you haven't changed your PCV valve in a while I woud change it, or at least clean it. That plays with all sorts of systems. And finally, the most irritating one. the EGR valve. They can cause all sorts of problems so the symptoms can be all over the place. Aside from killing your performance, they also confound mechanics by behaving like other problems. Good luck.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Poor idling when cold that gets better when the engine warms up, or at higher RPMs are symptoms of vacuum leaks. Check all hoses and connectors. If it's a manifold gasket, you will want to use a smoke machine (check when the engine is cold).

Sounds like you are running out of gas. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? PO 300 means there is a miss fire which can harm the catalytic converter. It could also be a ignition problem. Coil pickup. Without hands on diagnosis it is hard to exactly pin point the problem.

Having trouble starting. Has been delayed in firing for a little while now but seems to be getting worse. Now it turns over and possibly might hit but then dies immediately even while trying to give gas....

The plugs should be replaced every 80,000 miles. Fuel filter every 25,000 miles.
Long cranking times with a cold engine are most likely a result of a defective checkvalve in the
fuel pump, causing pressure to bleed down at rest. Also recomend cleaning of injectors and air
intake system.

If there is a check engine light, have the codes read,it is most likely a miss fire on one of the four cylinders,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

XJ8L would not start

You may have a gasket leaking oil to the engine cylinders. Once you got it started the oil burned off and the engine will run fine until the next time....
Unfortunately, on this car, it a VERY expensive problem to get fixed.
If the problem occurs again, be careful not to flood the engine. Try to get it running again, and take it in for a professional estimate and repair.

Obviously a sensor feeding wrong info to computer for cold start/running. Will save money in long run if you have it scanned for free at auozone, or PEP boys.
