My 6 disk OEM changer doesn't work. I get a Mech Comm Error on the display. I have tried a battery disconnect reset with no luck. The dealer says there is an internal electrical short. It sounds like it is trying to load a disk and is jammed. The radio, satellite, and aux all work fine.

have you tried disconnecting the battery cables? if this does not work, a CD may be stuck in it! You will have to remove the changer and open it up to remove the cd!
Hi, Worst thing you done was to remove the battery, but ref: CD player look under the volume control (on/off) you should find a very small hole enough for a paper clip to be pushed in & eject the cd check your fuse since removing battery may have caused quick short touched & blown fuse. Please give feedback at [email protected] Thanks, Malcolm Campbell.
try this and thats to remove the cartridge and take all the cds out ,then insert the empty cartridge into the set to see if it removes the last cd that was in the player ,then with one cd in try it again and if that doesnt work then disconnect the battery and try again other than that i have no idea sorry
For a 2004 CTS CD changer that gives you the message "cd mech error", unhook the negative battery cable and let sit for 10 minutes, then reconnect. The changer will reset itself and will then work correctly.
reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.
If that doesnt work you will have to take it for repair. the dealer is very expensive on this, my experience is it is cheaper to take it to a audio specialist who is cheaper and will do a better job.
sounds like they may have forgotten to take out transit plugs from radio which holds cd mechanism in place when shipping unless you got a new radio thats a dud? but that may also mean dealer didnt check operation of new unit after replacement if replaced which is what usually needs to be done when this error message comes up
Some people with this issue have had some sucess disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 minutes to reset the stereo. After re-connecting the battery, the stereo should reset and the error message should clear at which point the CD player should also function. Apart from this, a service call at a dealer or a car stereo repair specialist are the only alternatives. Best of luck.

I had the same problem. disconnect the battery cables. then reconnect them. this will reset the cd player and it should relaese all your cd player problems.
this happened twice to me and the above worked fine both times.
