Odometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays a season odometer and a trip odometer. Momentarily press the trip/reset switch in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the trip/reset switch for greater than 2 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The odometer is calculated and stored electronically in the body control module (BCM). The BCM uses the vehicle speed information from the engine control module (ECM) to calculate the odometer. The odometer displays 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The IPC stores a backup copy of the odometer value incase the IPC stops receiving a valid odometer value from the BCM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected.
Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .

first be sure that its the engine light and not the "service" light. the service light will usually illuminate if its time for an oil change. if its the service light ur owners manual should tell u how to reset it. if its ur engine light then try disconnecting ur positive battery cable for 1 minute. that should reset ur ecm and get rid of the engine light. if the engine light comes back on then have a diagnostic scan done to determine whats causing it. SOURCE: Brake lights stay on when lights are on
randyref: The most common problem with the Nissan's when it came to brake lights staying on, was a little plastic stopper button
which is located up near the top of the brake pedal arm.
If you follow the brake pedal arm up, you will find the brake light switch. If you push the pedal down, feel where the brake light switch is suppose to contact the pedal frame.
You will probably discover that there is a hole there instead of something that the switch was to come in contact with so it could be compressed which in turn, opened the circuit causing the brake lights to go out.
The part is available from Nissan and usually is stocked because it is a common problem. I stock 3-4 in my shop and I'm not a dealer.
The part it self is a round semi soft clear plastic disc with a small button which you push through the hole in the pedal frame, where it snaps in place.
I'm willing to bet that this will solve your problem. Check it and get back to me.
