2008 GMC Canyon, have a P0442 (small evap leak). Before I go troubleshooting this, I was wondering if this could cause a stumble while at idle or accelerating. Acts like bad coil(s) but no code.

Small evaporated leak won't cause that ,more likely a gas cap failure but the stumble is more likely;y a coil breaking down or plug

There could be a tiny rust hole in the fuel filler neck ,or the cap may not be sealing the filler neck properly. Check for rust on the filler neck, and on the sealing surface of the filler neck opening.

I just had a scan done on my 2000 grand am 2.4 engine it had a code po442 where is this located on the car and I heard gas tank needs dropped to replace

I heard gas tank needs dropped to replace ???? You should never listen to what you heard from someone who has no clue ! P0442 is a small leak DTC P0442 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected. You really should take it to a qualified repair shop .

EVAP Leaks P0442 and P0455

The evaporative emission system is tested by applying vacuum to the EVAP system and monitoring for a vacuum decay. The PCM monitors the vacuum level through the fuel tank pressure sensor signal. At an appropriate time, the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve and the EVAP vent solenoid are turned on, allowing the engine to draw a small vacuum on the entire evaporative emission system. Once the desired vacuum level has been achieved, the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve turns off, sealing the system. A small leak in the system will cause DTC P0442 to set.

P0442 OBD-II Trouble Code - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

What does that mean?
This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms
You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes
A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
* A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
* A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
* Other small leak in EVAP system
* Faulty vent o-ring seal

Possible Solutions
With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
