SOURCE: How do you access the spark plugs 2002 mercury mountaineer

IIRC these are a coil over design. meaning the coil is over the plug. the coil should have one 8mm bolt holding it on the lower intake manifold. remove the coild to get to the spark plugs. look by the fuel injectors, coil should be just next to it or very close. coil usually says motorcraft on it and circle in design.

good luck

SOURCE: 2002 mercury mountaineer 4.0 starter relay location

The power distribution box is
located in the engine compartment.
The power distribution box contains
high-current fuses that protect your
vehicle’s main electrical systems
from overloads.
The starter relay is in position #56 of that box.

SOURCE: front differential broke in my 2003 mercury

Depends I had a whole new used one put in for 1300...I had the front diff replaced 2x and the front driveshaft 2x a Drive shaft by shaftmaster is about 340. Some type of frame tweakage that throes it off. Always make sure you have the same tread on your Mountaineer if you have AWD.

How a bad drive shelf will act and my 2003 mercury mountaineer and its jumping like it wants to cut off

Don't quite under stand the question. Bad drive shelf? Shaft maybe? A shaft will cause vibration when going bad. But won't act like it will shut the vehicle off. If it is jumping when turning corners, it is the transfer case. Remove the front drive shaft to get rid of the jumping, until you can fix the T case. If you don't, it will destroy the front differential also.

Differential

do your homework here, otherwise u will just be replacing parts. tire pressure, circumfrance and same brands are critical. as well make sure the ball joints etc are in good condition. by taking out the driveshaft your mechanic has only eliminated the driveshaft u-joints as a possible cause. you have front u-joints, front ball joints, sway bar links, springs, radius arm bushings that may be causing the noise. the pop is caused by something worn that is being put in a bind while turning. sorry i am no help here but your mechanic needs to go further then taking out a driveshaft and confirming the axle is bad... a bit more to it than that. wish u luck.

Removal and installation of starter of 2002 mercury mountainer

Here's the generic starter replacement directions.
Engine should be cool, parked on level surface. Remove negative cable from battery. Remove electrical connections at starter (Sometimes starter may need to be partially removed to access all electrical connections.) Remove any brackets, parts, or accessories that obstruct access to the starter motor mounting bolts. Remove mounting bolts and remove starter. Clean the mounting surface, and install new starter and tighten the mount bolts evenly. Replace wires on starter. Connect battery.
Good luck.

Bad grinding noise that actually binds up the vehicle so it won't go. Sound like brakes but have already replaced brakes, wheel bearings, front axle arms, new tires, and checked the gear, the awd light,...

The problem is likely the transfer case has locked up, the question is do you need it to continue to be an AWD vehicle? If not a simple solution is to remove the driveshaft from the transfer case to the front differential case. Takes maybe 15-20 minutes and there are no leakage issues by doing so. The vehicle will now be a rear-wheel only drive one. I recently did this to our own 2003 model and as the car stays in the south, there is no need for the AWD. The car performs as expected and that binding problem is gone.
