It is tied into the pass-key system that disables your car as part of vehicle security. You would have to by pass the pass key system which would make it vulnerable to theft as any duplicate key or broken ignition could start the car. In my estimation if it ain;t broke don't fix it or you might wind up with an inoperable car. There is more than mechanics involved ...codes and software programmed into the bcm will disable the starter, pump and injectors.

When you have remote start, the security system is bypassed so that the motor will start without the security key. Once you wish to drive, the key must be installed, the system reads the key and if it doesn't line up.... It kills the motor. 1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shuting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix...

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page......... They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks.

The pins wear down and so do the keys causing security fail. 2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. sounds like it needs an ignition switch. the reason it dies after a few seconds after jumping the starter is bc the security system from gm thinks you're stealing the car so it kills the fire. the security system goes thru the key so if the switch is bad, it wont run no matter how you try to crank it

Go to a dealer with VIN and proof of ownership and see if they can get key and chip codes.

FOR APPROX. 10 MINUTES WATCH THE DASH THE THEFT OR SERCURITY LITE WILL BE FLASHING WHAT THIS WILL DO IS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE LOST MEMORY OF YOUR KEY AND HAS TO RELEARN IT AFTER AFTER 10 OR SO MINS. THE LITE WILL REMAIN ON STEADY MEANING NOT BLINKING ANYMORE TURN KEY OFF THEN TRY TO START CAR.. THIS IS NOT A FIX YOU MUST REPLACE PASSLOCK SENSOR.....
