Most cars you cant. It's factory set. Some are only available on a new throttle body all together. Check with rock auto for a new one. They sometimes come up with hard to find sensors and you might get lucky. My vw can only be replaced with a new throttle body.

SOURCE: idle air control valve needs replacing

If it is the IAC then buy one. once you know exactly what it looks like then it should be easy to see it connected to your throttle body. Look at the new one to find out where potential bolt holes are and now you know where they are on the car as well. If the check engine light is still on after you replace it try disconnecting your battery cables for a few minutes and it should reset your computer and turn the light off.

I recommend you test the idle air control valve. See procedure below. If this is not the problem, please read additional possibilities at the link below.

Operation

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve controls the amount of air that bypasses the throttle valve, which controls the engine idle speed. The IAC valve consists of windings, an armature, a return spring, and a rotary slide. The engine control module (ECM) pulses the voltage to the winding, the opposing forces on the armature by the return spring cause it to maintain a fixed position, adjusting the amount of bypass air to maintain the correct idle speed.

Removal & Installation

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the idle air control valve harness electrical connector.
Using a suitable tool, remove idle air control valve.
Installation is in reverse order of removal.

Testing

Checking Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) Triggering
Check IAC valve is electrically OK.
Slide up boot on the IAC valve connector.

Use scan tool 'Output Diagnostic Test Mode' function 03 to trigger the IAC valve - N71.Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester, or equivalent, between terminal 1 and engine ground (GND). Voltage tester must flash.Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester, or equivalent, between terminal 2 and battery positive voltage (B+). Voltage tester must light up.If specified results are not obtained:Connect VAG 1598/19 test box, or equivalent, to ECM harness connector.Check the wiring between harness and connector terminal 1 (in engine compartment) to test box socket D11 . Then check the wiring between harness connector terminal 2 and test box socketD9 using wiring diagram. Repair as necessary. If the wiring is okay, but triggering still does not occur, replace the ECM.If the triggering signal and the wiring are okay and the valve does not react, replace the IAC valve. Checking Mechanical Function
Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve.Visually check the surface of the rotary slide (arrow) for signs of wear.

WARNING
Do NOT check for ease of movement by prying on the rotary slide with a screwdriver or other tools that could cause scratching or other damage.

Reconnect the IAC valve, while still removed, to the harness connector.Use scan tool 'Output Diagnostic Test Mode' function 03 to trigger IAC valve - N71.Check whether rotary slide moves freely from stop to stop.If there are signs of scoring, or if the rotary slide does not move freely in both directions, replace the IAC valve. If the IAC valve does not respond (not triggered) during the Output Diagnostic Test Mode, check triggering. Resistance Test
Remove the idle air control valve harness connector.Use a suitable Digital Multimeter (DMM) to measure the resistance between the 2 terminals of the idle air control valve. The correct measurement should be 7-11 ohms. If not, replace the idle air control valve.
NOTE
At room temperature, the resistance value will be lower. The resistance value will be higher if the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is measured at under-hood operating temperatures.

Reconnect the idle air control valve harness connector. The idle air control valve should hum and vibrate slightly when the ignition is turned 'ON'. If not, the ECM or harness may be defective.

Where is the idle screw located on a 1999 Saturn need to adjust the idle..Still trying to find out why car will not stay running

There is no screw to adjust the idle , the PCM - engine computer controls the idle with the use of IAC valve , Idle air control valve ! The Base idle is set at the factory an you need not try to adjust it ! You will cause running problem an the check engine light to come on . Try cleaning the throttle plate and the idle air control passages .

How do adjust the idle on a 2000 Chevy Malibu 3100 v6

You don't , it's computer controlled ! If it won't idle you probably have an issue with IAC valve , idle air control valve , or the maybe the air by pass , passage ! Trying to adjust base idle will cause the check engine light to come on , an cause running problems . Idle Air Control Valve . Your best bet mite be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has diagnostic tool's to trouble shoot this problem !

94 nissan altima won't start and iddle after cleaning IACV valve

An IAC (idle air control) motor is designed to adjust the engine idle RPM speed by opening and closing an air bypass passage inside the throttle body. The cars computer or PCM (powertrain control module) receives information from various sensors and will output signals to adjust the idle air control motor in or out to adjust engine idle speed by controlling engine idle air. An idle air control motor can fail one of two ways, either the motor short circuits and stops working or the motor will develop high resistance and cause the idle air control motor to react slowly, either failure can cause the engine to stall at idle. When a trouble code scan is performed it sometimes won't always detect a failed or weak idle air control motor.

How do i adjust idle for 1989 toyota camry

Its not exactly adjustable, its controlled by the computer by using the idle air control valve.
If the idle speed is too high, you may have a vac leak, or the idle air control valve may be faulty.

Its idling rough

Hi.

Check idle air control system (valve, hoses and wires). Check air intake and check the sensors installed in the air intake. Check vacuum for leaks.

Those listed are the most common faults causing fast idle in this type of engine.

Need to adjust my idle how do i do that

air idle control valve, I dont belive you have a ideler set screw..I do belive the problem is what I have Listed..........Best of luck

How can I tell if I need a new air idle control valve?
If your car has a rough idle or the idle cycles up and down, then chances are that you have a bad idle control valve. On modern vehicles, the purpose of the idle air control valve is to regulate your idle, and keep the idle smooth. The idle valve is controlled by the ECU or the computer, and when in gear the idle should be between 800 and 1000 rpm, and not in gear, between 700 and 900 rpm

How do you set the throttle position sensor on 1999 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 litre

That sensor is not adjustable. It slides onto the throttle shaft and is screwed in place to the throttle body. Idle speed is controlled by the computer by adjusting air flow through the idle air control valve. If the idle is too high (you did not say) first clean the throttle body bore and plate, then if necessary remove the control valve, cleaning out the passage in the throttle body and carefully cleaning the valve itself, without turning the plunger. If that does not help, you will need to do electrical testing on that and other components to find out what's going on as well as checking all vacuum hoses attached to the engine for cracks or leaks.

Replacing Idle Control Valve on 97 Pathfinder, need help!

it's on the throttle body. Here's a Quest with same 3.0L engine. These often need cleaning with carb or throttle body cleaner

Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve When the engine (6007) is running but not at idle, the throttle valve controls the amount of air admitted into the engine. The powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) increases the fuel injection output in proportion to the increased airflow to achieve the appropriate air/fuel ratio. During idle, the throttle valve is almost fully closed. It is therefore necessary for the idle air control system to supply air for combustion during idle. The idle air control (IAC) valve allows a metered amount of air to enter the intake manifold (9424). The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects engine speed and sends a signal to the PCM. The PCM sends a duty cycle (On/Off) signal to the IAC valve which allows additional air to enter the intake manifold. Air is added by the IAC valve to maintain the set lowest idle speed at which the engine can operate. The idle speed adjusting screw allows adjustment of the airflow into the intake manifold.

0cb8ac7.gif
Fast Idle Control (FIC) Solenoid The fast idle control (FIC) solenoid helps maintain a constant idle speed while the air conditioning is operating. When the air conditioning is turned on, the front climate control panel sends out two signals. One signal is sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) to engage the A/C compressor (19703). The second signal is a ground signal sent to the FIC solenoid relay, to engage the FIC solenoid. The FIC solenoid supplies additional air to adjust the increased engine load.
