SOURCE: i need to remove the power steering pulley but leave the pump on.

The only way i know is to go to an auto parts store and rent the tool you need to do that, (like auto zone) because its pressed on and you need the tool to get it off. I would unbolt the pump and move it out of the way but its up to you. Your doing the work.

SOURCE: I hit a puddle and the brake and battery lights come on

When you went through the puddle water got all over your serpentine belt causing it to slip,so that is why you lost your steering and the alternator stopped charging which is on the same circuit as the brake light sensor. So if everything is all right now do not wast your money at a shop everything will be fine:)

SOURCE: power steering went out while driving and battery

If the water got high enough to cover the front of the engine or was shot up high enough by hitting the puddle it will cause the belt or belts to slip on the pulleys so you can loose power steering or the alt will show low amperage output and will turn on the battery light.

Testimonial: "You were also correct. Belt off and only one bolt holding altinator on, other two bolts broke. Thank you for your help"

Power steering went out while driving and battery

If the belt gets wet and flies off, or starts to slip, the power steering and alternator will stop spinning causing this condition.

Check belts to see if they are still on the truck and spinning the pulleys of the alternator and power steering pump.

I drive though a puddle of water and the battery light come on and I losre power steering. I put a serpintine belt on about two years ago

mcdevito75 here, Chances are your driveing too fast thru puddles, water is getting on the belt causeing it to slip and water also hittind electricall system, cils / Alternator etc. go slower thru puddles, better yet avoid them as you could get stuck.

Have 2007 Santa Fe which I love - problem: Drove thru puddle about 3 months ago - Battery light came on & lost power steering, but after 1 minute, batt light off & steering fine... Then, on very...

the crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!

Loss of power steering.

Might be a slipping serpentine belt. Did you happen to drive through a puddle of water just before this happened?

Could also be your steering rack going bad. This would be more money. Hopefully not. When was the last time you had your power steering fluid drained and replaced?

I keep losing power steering fluid from resvoir and when the fluid gets low a loud widing sound accurs. What should I do?

You must have a leak somewhere. The whinning noise is coming from the pump. They make that noise when they are out of fluid.

Are you seeing any puddles or oil drops on the ground under your car?

A power steering resevoir is't very large so it won't take very long or a very big leak to run it out of fluid.

There aren't that many parts to a power steering system either.

The leak would most likely becoming from a hose, a connection or from the power steering component cylinder or box.
