Removal of the CAT will not make your truck go into limp mode, but it will effect your fuel mileage.

Getting rid of the cat converter is the worst idea that has been put into your head
It is there for a purpose , improves economy, doesn't restrict performance and if removed places you in a position for an unauthorized modification that can cost a lost of cash
and yes it can put the engine in limp mode as it affects the engine sensors and that affects the air/fuel settings
And yes problem in transmissions will put the engine in limp mode as the program is to protect a failing transmission as well as an engine

SOURCE: automatic transmission is stuck in 2nd gear (limp mode)

most newer vehicles  have transmission control modules, that go to a default of 2nd or 3rd gear when they go bad!  I had a 91 plymouth stuck in 3rd gear because of this module! could be your problem!    when mine went out, it smelled like something electrical burned inside the the passenger cabin! I would check all the electrical connections on the transmission first    good luck

SOURCE: 1990 jaguar xj6 transmission problem

Hi Virtgen

If you have checked your automatic transmission fluid, and its OK.
Does it smell burnt ?
Sounds like you have a mechanical problem in the transmission.

The ABS light on is another problem.
This is usually associated with a rear ABS sensor faulty, due to corrosion in the rear hub.

Give me some feed back !

SOURCE: 98 Intrepid Gone into "Limp Mode"

There are some sensors on the transmission that tend to go bad. You may also need to check the wiring. Could be a computer problem. How many miles?

2002 isuzu rodeo stuck in limp mode Why does the engine rpm rev high at around 30 mph as transmission shift from 2nd to 3rd clutch engages but everything free spins

If your Isuzu is stuck in 'Limp Mode' you will need to get it plugged into a diagnostic system or an obd2 scanner as soon as possible to find out why! Limp Mode usually means there is a possibly serious problem and by serious I mean expensive! If you get the codes comment below with them and I'll try and help explain them.

Looking too buy peugeot 807 deisel 2.2 hdi been told it goes in limp mode but it still drives and willeventually get to 70 or 90

When a transmission is put into limp mode by the pcm/tcm, it's for a reason. The limp mode is to limit further damage until the problem can be diagnosed and properly repaired. Keep driving it and it will require a new transmission.

I have a 2003 chyrsler 300m it went in limp mode codes p0700. P0340 p0344 p0430 p0888 came up cleared the codes and now it knocks.

clearing codes wont correct the problem and limp mode is designed to protect motor and transmission - p0700 is a transmission problem
P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction p0340 is camshaft position sensor malfunction
https://www.obd-codes.com/p0340 p0344 is also a camshaft position sensor circuit problem
P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent your p430 is a cat converter problem
https://www.obd-codes.com/p0430 and p0888 is transmission relay problem these reasons are limp mode the knock can be fuel not burning correctly or a lower engine knock can mean you damaged a piston

My 99 Cadillac sts is in limp mode i believe as it srarts and runs but wont move when i put it in gear. How do i get it out of limp mode?

Sounds like you have a failiing transmission, faulty selector, or possibly a failing Transmission ECU. There are too many possible causes to even guess, but what I can tell you that 'limp mode' will not prevent your vehicle from Driving - It will, however, enable a vehicle with certain failing systems to be driven short distances at limited speeds (with decreased power), but it does not prevent the vehicle from moving - If your vehicle starts but does not move when placed in gear, the problem is not 'limp mode' but lies elsewhere.

WHY DID THE CAR GO INTO LIMP MODE. WHAT IS THE POSSIBLE CODES AND REASONS FOR LIMP MODE AND HOW DO WE RESOLVE IT

Most limp modes are caused by transmission faults but can be caused by engine sensors and blown fuses. If your car is in limp mode the fault will be stored in the ECM.
You need to read the fault codes stored in your ECM to know which sensor has caused this problem. You didn't say what model vehicle you have and it would take a number of hours to list all the possible codes and reasons.
Get someone with a code reader for your model vehicle.

You replaced a few parts ,maybe you should take it to a ASE certified repair shop instead of guessing !

Limp mode changed master, slave Drive i know sensors vss tcm egr but i want to know the straight up,how do you get this out of this mode. Sorry

You may not be able to come out of limp mode until the problem the computer is seeing is repaired. The computer determines if something is affecting proper engine/transmission operation and for safety implements LIMP mode to protect other operating systems from possible damage. Do a diagnostic scan and repair the problem

Limp home mode

Recommend you consult with your local certified transmission mechanic. They will have code readers that can talk to the transmission and not just the general codes.

If possible remove the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan is typically an indication of mechanical failure such as clutches, meaning a rebuild.

If it comes to a rebuild, have yours rebuilt versus a swap out. This way you'll know everything bolts up correctly and you have all the brackets, etc.
