Does the gear shifter move if so your linkage broke if not the linkage is jammed. Need to have it towed to a repair shop and diagnosed. If you can remove key vehicle is in park.

Sounds like the linkage has come loose. You may need to have it towed to a repair shop.

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .

The end of the shift cable has broken, there is a plastic ring at the transmission end of the cable that breaks. You will need to have it towed to the mechanic.

2008 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 5.7 4x4. When you lock the doors and wait a minute I hear the tranny shifter moving.

Sounds like a transmission valve body failure. Could be the solenoid as well, you might as well replace that as long as you're in there. Is the check engine light on? Some auto parts stores will scan it for free.

I have a 2006 mitsubishi galant es. I was recently in a rear end collision. The following day my brake lights went out. A couple hours later while reversing out of a parking spot, I went to put my car in...

here is what the code means.
http://engine-codes.com/p0705_mitsubishi.html

P0705 Mitsubishi Description The park/neutral position (PNP) switch includes a transmission range switch. The transmission range switch detects the selector lever position when the shift lever is in the N or P shift position and sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

When is the code detected? The transmission range switch detects the selector lever position and sends a signal to the TCM.

2006 chevy 3500 stuck in park

Do the brake lights work? If so, try turning ignition to on, no dash lights, and not to start and shifting to neutral then try to start it. If this allows it to start in neutral. Then it is the Transmission brake safety switch. If the brake lights don't work it's the brake light switch.

The lock button on the gearshift will not unlock on my 2002 Chevy TrailBlazer. I read online that I should press an orange lever under the center console but when I looked in there I found the lever on...

Since the lever is obviously no help, try this:

BRAKE LIGHTS AND SHIFT LOCK
Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and/or shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs. Is shifter fully in Park?

Shifting to NEUTRAL
To shift the transfer case to NEUTRAL, first make sure
the vehicle is parked so that it will not roll:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Start the vehicle.
3. Connect the vehicle to the towing vehicle.
4. Put the transmission in NEUTRAL (N) or have
the clutch pedal pressed for vehicles with
manual transmission.
5. Shift the transfer case to 2HI.
6. Simultaneously press and hold the 2HI and
4LO buttons for 10 seconds. The red NEUTRAL
light will come on when the transfer case shift to
NEUTRAL is complete.
7. Shift the transmission to REVERSE (R) for one
second, then shift the transmission to DRIVE (D)
for one second or FIRST (1) for vehicles with
manual transmission.
8. Turn the ignition to OFF.
9. Place the transmission shift lever in PARK (P) or
FIRST (1) for vehicles with manual transmission.
10. Release the parking brake prior to towing.

Shifting Out of NEUTRAL

(2HI, 4HI, AUTO 4WD or 4LO).
4. Put the transmission in NEUTRAL (N) or press the
clutch pedal for vehicles with manual transmission.

After the transfer case has shifted out of NEUTRAL,
the red light will go out.
6. A re-engagement sound is normal when shifting out
of NEUTRAL.
