Car clicks when trying to start

I just fixed the window that fell into the driver's side front door. the next time i tried to start my car (a day later), it wouldn't start, and all i got were clicking noises.

the clock reset. the dash panel turns on, the radio works, the vents work (at low power), the lights work... when i set the alarm, the sound of the car horn is fainter than usual.

i tried jump starting it with the help of a friend's car and with AAA to no luck.

this is a 1999 VW jetta (new model) with 85K miles on it. i'm thinking it may be a problem with the starter, but i also think it is way too coincidental that this happened right after i fixed the window that fell into the door.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks for your help, outdoorsman.

the lights do go off temporarily while i am actually turning the key in the ignition. i think that always happens whenever i start my car. all i hear is repetitive clicking, nothing else. i'm not sure what i would here from the starter.

perhaps my battery is bad. it is probably 4 years old. i have had to replace it twice already.

i've also drained my battery numerous times in the past, but this time is different, in that whenever my battery has died before, there is no juice left in my car to power all those things i mentioned above. plus, i was usually able to easily jump start it. not this time.

    another possibility...
in doing some online research, i've realized that a lot of wiring goes through the front drivers side door, and me messing with the window may have disrupted something. the windows are manual, but wiring for the security system is in that door.

if the starter is the issue, my brother said that tapping the starter with a blunt object while someone else turns the key may be a temporary fix. i'm going to try that when the sun comes up.

    thanks, again.

When you try and start the vehicle does all the lights and radio and stuff go off? And does the starter make any weird noises when you try and start it? I would go to the parts store and ask them to check your battery if you can drive it there. lol..........they will be happy to check it out for you. Still acts like it could be a battery issue.

97 Accord power window. Driver side window not moving.

I would check the switch. I had a 97 Accord LX coupe for 20 years and replaced the driver window regulator several times (had been hit on that side so I dont think things lined up right, wearing out the regulator). Every time the regulator messed up it was because the cable that attaches to the window would break at a plastic piece. The window would almost always fall into the door. Once the cable was loose and got wrapped around something but the window still fell down some. Regulator would make a horrible grinding noise as the cable got tangled. So if your window worked fine one day and nothing the next, I would start with the switch. It's possible the motor died, but that never happened to me, even with cheap aftermarket units. Could also be a broken wire. Might need to take door panel off and test for power at the plug for the regulator. If power- replace regulator. If no power- keep working back to the switch. I replaced the power mirror control with a used one from ebay, so it's possible to find an oem switch.

2007 mazda 6 front and rear driver and rear passenger windows not working.

The windows need to be re-learned.
- Park the car on level floor. Shift the gear lever to P or N. Pull up the hand brake. Start the engine.
- Sit on driver's seat. Lower the driver side window. Keep the button pressed for three to four Seconds after the window glass sits completely.
- Move up the window glass and do the same as above.
- Do the same with passenger side window glass while sitting on the passenger seat.
- Repeat the same procedure for rear windows one by one from their own buttons.
- Sit on a drivers seat and operate all the windows one by one.
Note:
If the problem persists, pull up the body diagnostic error codes with Diagnostic computer or re-learn the windows with the same machine.

Hi i have Cherokee sport 2001 and central door locks not working, at the same time all passenger windows cannot be open only i can open from driver side console. few days back all the door locks start

Try unplugging the passenger door module from the wiring harness. Module may be bad. I see one screw holding it with tabs at the other end. You should be able to pull it up without removing the door panel. I see there are modules online for less than $40.

When my son closed the front passenger side door, the window fell down inside the door and we cannot get it back up. Is this the window regulator? Is it something we can fix ourselves?

Window regulator or cable, depending on what you have

You remove the inner door panel to gain access to what
broke

Wether you can fix it, depends on your own skills

Not fun ,but I would never recommend anyone but you
doing it

Not the job repair shops like & in most cases only put
broken parts back on & 4 days later it falls down again

Don't know why they have always done that, rather the just
fixing it the first time

Automatic windows on a '95 Maxima: Driver side works, but none of the others work. I tried all switches and the only switch that works is for my driver side window

I would suggest starting with the fuse panel. Drivers side under the dash first and check the fuse there. If it's good then go to the panel in the engine compartment. If it too is okay then you'll have to start at the switches on the drivers door. First you'll need to check that you're getting voltage to all of the switches. If you are then remove a switch and using a multimeter set it to ohms and check for resistance while actuating the switch. The systems on these vehicles are relatively simple by design. If you're not familiar with a multimeter or checking resistance in switches then this process can be a little tricky and a lot time consuming. But assuming you are familiar, then by continuing this process through each of the switches and at each of the doors this should tell you where the problem is. I've found more times than not that one bad switch replaced will fix it. If not then there's a problem in the wiring most likely between the drivers side front door and the passenger side front door. Hope this helped, HAVE A SAFE AND PRODUCTIVE DAY!

Drivers side door control panel and automatic locks won't work

Either your not getting power to the window motor, or the motor is shot, Check with a good body shop, dealer, or your favorite mechanic. If you don't want to spend several hundred dollars and the window is up, leave it alone or repair as needed.
