98 tacoma when turn headlights on radio display goes off and no climate control knob lights. Everything is stock. Changed panel fuse under hood.

Dimmer suggested as part of the problem, headlight dimmer, or dash light dimmer? Where is dash light dimmer? Other possible causes?

SOURCE: dash lights

Your bulbs to backlight the dash are burnt out. BUT, the good news is: It is EASY to pull the instrument pod.Remove the plactic fascia, and then remove the 4 bolts arounf the pos. Pull the pod towards you, top end first, and press the release clips on the severasl wiring connections. Then repplace whatever bulbs you need to. Plug i the wires & whap it back together. The wire connections are foolproof, one cannot be inserted into anothe hole. Nice.

SOURCE: No instrument panel lights on 1995 Nissan King Cab

Ye, the dimmer switch still works.

I know this because, when I turn on the left direction flasher, the panel lights pulse dimly on and off with the direction light flasher.

Do I have a defective direction light flasher? if so where is it located?

1998 tacoma, when I turn the headlights on the radio display goes off, also no lights for the climate control knobs

I would say if this is a used truck, the prior owner may have wired the radio wrong. Remove radio and check your dimmer wire. Make sure the dimmer wire is correctly wired to your headlights. While you are back there check all the wiring to your radio and climate control. The climate knobs also have little light bulbs. Make sure they are not burned out.

Where is the underdash fuse/fuse box for the front running lights on tacoma?

I think all cars these days have both an under-hood fuse center, and a fuse panel inside, either under the dash, or behind a cover, sometimes in the glove box. Check your owner's manual, if you still have it. It will tell fuse locations.

Climate control knobs dont light up when I turn on my headlights, and cigarette lighter in the cab, also doesnt work

Check all the fuses with a test light and find which one is bad. You can't just look at them or jiggle them around to find out if good or bad. Use a test light.
