SOURCE: 94 honda accord hard to shift from park

You seem to have two (2) separate problems one may be a BAD brake light switch this switch is mounted at the top of BRAKE pedal and control the locking mechanism on gear shifter(safety component-for example if a kid is sitting in seat with vehicle running he/she will NOT be able to put vehicle in gear without stepping on brake). The other problem is a BAD shifter cable-this cable moves the selector in the transmission when you move shift knob. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: manual clutch

Sounds like the wrong pressure plate. I got a kit from Autozone and it was the wrong pressure plate. My old one was obviously thicker. With the new pressure plate, the shift fork was almost at full travel before any resistance. That's no good. I had to pull the transmisssion again and use my old pressure plate. Luckily, it was in good condition. Then, the clutch slack was easily adjusted and works great.

well first off if the car wont crank all the time this could mean that the flex plate could be missing teeth and the starter isn't engaging it, as for putting in gear it could be the shift linkage but it could also be a switch that engages when you press the brake to shift into gear, if, this car actually requires you to engage the brake

Audi transmission shift

Park is release by a small solenoid, the solenoid is powered up by the brake light circuit, so if the brake lights don't work due to a bad switch or wiring issue at the switch park will no release. If the brake lights do work then the wiring to the solenoid may be defective or the solenoid is sticking. Every car I have ever worked on has a bypass for the park lock, check your owner's manual for information on bypassing the lock out when this type of problem occurs.

Can shift without applying brakes

There should be a cable that goes from the key lock to the shifter. That cable may be broken. There should also be a lock solenoid that requires you to push on the brake pedal to get the shifter out of park.
You would need to disassemble the console to get access to the shifter and then inspect these components.

Shifter is stuck in park. had to remove little cover over hole, by the shifter, to insert key into hole, to get shifter to remove shifter from park. what causes this and is it something i can fix on my...

I believe this vehicle is equipped with a shift lock that necessitates depressing the brake pedal before it can be shifted out of "Park". This is a safety feature designed into almost every car made nowadays to prevent unintended movement of the vehicle when shifting out of "Park". The Shift Lock solenoid is triggered by the brake light switch located near the top of the brake pedal arm. Starting with the "basics", check to see if the brake lights are working (they should illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed. If the brakes lights do not come on. then proceed to check the brake/stop light fuse. Replace if needed. Once the brake lights are functioning, the shift lock should "disengage" and allow you to shift out of "Park" when the brake pedal is pressed. If the fuses are okay, but still no brake lights, then the Brake Light Switch may need to be replaced.

Brake lights working but won't shift out of "Park"? Check for a separate fuse for the Shift Lock Solenoid. Replace if needed. Otherwise the Shift Lock Solenoid may need to be replaced. This will require disassembly of the console to access the part.

Gear shift has locked up

sounds like brake shift interlock solenoid is bad. try doing this emergency bypass. Turn key to off position, no lights on cluster. step on brake, pull shifter out of park to neutral. start car & drive away without putting it in park. see owner manul for better description.

Cannot get automatic tran to go into gear

see if one of your brake lights or out. on some cars if the brake light goes out you won,t be able to shift. there is a way to bypass this but you have to call the dealer to find out what it is.

Sheift lock

The term "shift lock" is the system that is in place to prevent the vehicle from being shifted out of Park into Reverse or Drive WITHOUT having the driver's foot firmly on the brake pedal. The brake light switch on the brake pedal closes a circuit that energizes a solenoid under the shifter. When the brake is applied, and the solenoid is energized, the shift lever is no longer "locked", and can be moved to the desired position.
The idea here stems from a phenonomon several years ago that dealt with the issue of "Sudden Intended Acceleration". What was happening here was, for some unknown reason, engines started developing high RPMS for no reason, and several accisents were reported due to this issue. The vehicle would accelerate "unintendedly", when putting into drive or reverse, and could hit something.
