th 350/th400/700r4/4L60e transmissions will all bolt up. the (th) series only has three speeds. and the others have four.the 4L60e may need a stand alone computer as it was designed for use with the o.b.d.II diagnostic system

That year should have been either a 263ci 4.3L V6 for C - series trucks and the 350ci HO 5.7L V8 for K -series trucks.

The eighth digit in the VIN number on the trucks dash (view from outside the truck on the drivers side) is the engine code. I believe M is a 350 and P is a 305.

The years will fit is 1998 to present 4l60E for the 1500 suburban. Your transmission on your Suburban is a 4L60E, just make sure it's a 4L60E for the years of 1998 to present. 1997 was the change year and the transmission was sectioned in to a three piece housing where the older 4L60E was a one piece housing and the older housing had a 4 bolt end on the tail housing as to the newer ones have a 5 bolt, the internals are the same through out the years. i do believe they are different transmissions. i know my '95 chevy pickup 5.7 is a one year only transmission for correct fit. best thing to do is call local junkyard. they have great interchange guides and could tell you if it will work and what things may need to be changed
