Open the hood/bonnet, look back by the windshield..there is a black plastic cover over the rain tray that runs all the way across behind the engine..the battery is located under this cover.

The beauty covers over the battery should just unclip and pull off. Take a careful look to be sure they're not screwed down (they're not on my A4), and as long as you don't see any screws, they just pop off by hand.
