2004 what might be the problem for car not starting

2004 alero Oldsmobile just won't start again ,I replaced fuel filter fuel pump spark plugs and last night it started up but quickly died then started again after leaving key on for while maybe the security passlock is stopping my car from cranking?

it sounds like the check valve in the fuel pump is letting the fuel bleed back into the tank

Non-start situations basically boil down to two things: No Fuel, or no spark.

I you are looking to throw a part at it, start with the crank sensor. They are cheap and not too hard to replace.

A full diagnostic approach would be to determine if it was a fuel or a spark problem. Check fuel pressures with a fuel pressure test guage: Low fuel pressure indicates a bad fuel pump or a bad fuel presssure regulator. Lastly on the fuel side, check t see if the injectors are getting a signal to fire, usually done with something called a noid light, I believe.

Spark diagnosis begins with first determining the condition, then finding the cause. Bad coil, loose wires, even the crank sensor are all suspect. A good repair manual with a flow chart is probably the best procedure to follow.

In my case, my manual only had a passing reference to the crank sensor and no diagnostic procedure to test it or even lead me to it. I found the solution through extensive web searches. Once I replaced it, all was well.

Yes. pass-lock has roughly a 10 minute timer.

be careful on this problem, this car has a problem on the pas-loc security system,go to www.carcomplaints.com type in 2001 alero wont start.i have this same year our daughter drives.please go and check this sight out .this is not a bad fuel pump. the sec.system is flawed.it thinks the car is being stolen so it is giving a false code which is causing the fuel pump to shut down.this is a problem that gm knew about,if you have a owners man.on this car, look up the pas loc system in it.they tell you how to override it.i hav been dealing with this for years snd may have a fix that will cost nothing..

did you use aftermarket crank sensor? if so that might be your problem. dealer has several different ones, by providing vin number, but there is only one after market for all optimas 01-05. try to connect thick pink wire and thick orange wire together on the ignition failure sensor. you might have the same problem as me. good luck.

2004 olds alero. new fuel filter and plugs. still wont start.

Did you check for spark at any ot the spark plug wires/ coils? If there is, check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Take the port cap off and connect a fuel pressure gauge. If one is not available, with a pocket screw driver deppress valve at port and observe if fuel pours out. If no fuel comes out at all, check your fuel pump circuit. Check for good ground and power at fuel pump connector. If power/ground are ok, replace fuel pump. If spark and good fuel pressure is present, there is the possibility of engine mechanical issues(jumped) timing chain). Also, a plugged catalitic wont let engine start but its very unlikely thats your problem. Start with your basics: spark, fuel, engine mechanical and catalitic.

I have a 2004 oldsmobile alero and I have replaced the fuel pump, relay, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter and my car starts but dies after a few seconds, what could be making this happen?

Sometimes this is caused by a bad crank position sensor.
Have the codes retrieved (at autozone or any national parts stores for free) and see if that points to anything. If no codes are present, it could be the crank sensor-which a mechanic could test before replacing.

Two weeks ago when i went to drive my 2004 Oldsmobile Alero..it was hesitating and started to shake if i went above 25. Then the service engine light came on and was blinking at me. I kept it under 20 and...

it could be ignition coil(coil pack). misfire and vacuum leaks gives you engine light's on. and if fuel pump or filter not good, engine wont start.

My 2000 Oldsmobile Alero will turn over but wont start...any solutions to this problem? I did recently replace the crankshaft position sensor.

my sister in-laws did the exact same thing. we replaced fuel filter pump and injectors. All the time it was old spark plugs. It kept cranking but wouldn't start. spent less than $20 on new spark plugs and it fired right up and is still running strong

@the car was runing fine and tree dayz ago it stop i had it towed and it started and today it stop again and now will not start turns over but will not start

You should start with a fuel filter, if it hasn't been replaced recently, and see if it starts and runs after that. If it doesn't the fuel pump pressure and the spark to the spark plugs will need to be checked.

If the security light is flashing when that happens, you need to turn the key to the ON position, and let it sit for 10 minutes, so it can reset the security code. Start it up as normal and let it idle for 5 minutes.
