Have 2005 pt cruiser that wont start without a jump once weather turns cold.....

And seems i have to drive it a distance before i can start it again without having to jump it but by morning it needs a jump if it is cold outside

Check battery terminals , go to oriely, napa,pet boys, most of these companies will do a free battery test ,more than likely your battery has a bad cell,if the battery is more than 3 years old it would be a good idea to replace it ,if you replaced the battery recently still have it tested I've seen plenty of new batterys fail test , after replacing battery have above companies perform a charging system test to verify proper charging ,if the next day battery is again dead you have a voltage draw this means something in the vehicle is consuming voltage that wound normal shut off when key is turned off

the light flashes when damage to the converter is happening,either by misfire or over rich condition . a misfire will cause the bucking and jumping. a bad injector will over rich the system also have checked with scanner a clogged converter will set the light on.

To do self diag on a pt u need to start with ignition off. Hold trip button in for the odometer keeping trip button held down turn ignition key to run then release trip. This will also run a self test on instrument cluster. Codes will be displayed in the odometer at the end of test

It sounds very much like a new battery to me. Batteries suffer in extremely cold weather and cells fail. Jump starting will divert all the power to the bad cells and so you will get nothing to the starter.. Have a load test done on the battery first but be prepared for a new one

2005 PT Cruiser no crank
sounds like the crank position sensor. check continuity and 5volts reference at sensor. you can have it checked by someone with a Good scanner(SNAP-ON). If it happens to start up,drive the car till it wont start up again; unplug the crank position sensor and count to 5 then plug it back in. If it starts then its the crank sensor.(just a quick way to test it and get you home or to a shop)

I would want to know what the trouble codes are in the computer since the check engine light is on.
Those codes would help you or a mechanic know where to start checking.
If the alternator is not charging the battery, and you know for a fact the battery and alternator are ok, the problem could be a fuse or fuseable link wire, or the computer.

I went to start my 2005 PT Cruiser and got a loud clicking sound and it won't turn over. Is it the starter?
probably not sounds like either a dead or weak battery or bad connections on the battery posts. first take battery cables loose clean terminals and hook back up hopefully then it will start. or use jumper cables and see if it will jump start. if it jump starts then you no its not starter.if it doesnt jump stsrt then clean posts and cable ends and try again. hope this helps. best of luck

Hi Isabel. I think you have a bad battery. The reason the lights can come on but the car still not start is that the lights take much less energy than the starter. I'd be very careful jump starting a modern vehicle as it's extremely easy (and expensive) to damage the car's computer. If your car still has its original battery, this would be the first thing I'd replace.

I have a 2005 pt cruiser and i ran out of gas and got towed to get gas and after filling up i went to turn the car on and it wont start. It makes no noise and wont even turn over. The battery is brand new and all the lights and everything turn on. A red light blinks..not sure what that means or if that always blinks.. does anyone know the problem or how to fix it?
