1991 geo tracker 4wd....my starter started to fail frequently but would push start. Then starter rarely worked...had parts store test system...said my battery had a dead cell and was headed for failure. When I replaced the battery I lost dash lights....now the car was dead. I put the old battery back in and after toying with it a while....I got dash lights back....I push started it and went home. Now I can't get dash light back on even with the old battery. Nothing works! Fuses appear fine. I'm so lost. What do I do?

I believe your alternator is bad as well. Your computer will start turning off any aux. power (dash lights, stereo...) to keep the motor running which means battery isnt being maintained by the alternator.

SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Tercel Starter Problems

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

SOURCE: clk top will not go back up seems dead..all fuses checked

It is normal for the roll bar to rise when top is down. It seems like the rear valance cover is not secured and the soft op does not understand what position it is in. There is a way to manually close top. it is stated in your owners manual. also I would try to close top with button(assuming your vehicle will start and the battery has good voltage) start car and try to operate top down and try pushing on rear cover also make sure the retractable cover in trunk is extended to compress operation switch

SOURCE: 06 pontiac grand prix wont start no clicking when you turn the key over even jump starting the battery, has dash lights & radio & parking lights. battery tested good. put a used starter & altinator on

Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

Testimonial: "kellertech1?? i tried something new.. my batt. was dead after sitting for 5hrs so i jumped it & later unhooked the batt. & hooked the batt. back up next day & car started ok kinda a weak start but started. so can a starter drain a batt or where should i look for a short or could this be a weak batt. that tested good but 2 weak 2 start the car."

4wd light blinks every 30 seconds and it doesn't feel like the 4wd is engaged.

wow no year car, that be hard to get accurate help no?
GEO"s run 1989 to 1998 and then became Chevy trackers later.
my guess #2 you didnt read the operators guide need one , have it ask.
nor #3 that its part time 4 wheel drive not full time
full time happened in 2004 only
the 1989 to 1989 are all the same. and beyond to 2003.
first off its best to shift in to 4wd from 2h going as slow as possible
0 mph can fail to allow shifting the transfer case is not a 4wd syncro-mesh gear (ive rebuilt them) .
what that means is move very slow and shift never fast or grind that poor little gear to *****.
Part time 4wd is only for offroad
and for ICE/snow packed road,
never for pavement, tires touching concrete or tarmac, no, do not.
the rule is 1 tire needs to be on ice or dirt, or more tires
ok now you know PT 4wd. like a champ, (or queen)

it does not give more power, only more traction, on snow/ice
Im guessing you a girl and car is on pavement only., see>?????
if im wrong tell me... cant see you, nor your car nor what car is rolling on,, nor your country. (state)
GOT ICE? we are hot down here in Texas. heaters off. hot.

now lets do front axles.
if the left fails or the right auto locks fail then
there is no 4wd, period !!!
sorry but that is a fact.
the autolocks ive seen were all bad, never ever seen say
an 1991 auto that works (long ago rusted to stuck off or stuck on)
the manual locks i like, because, they can be repaired easy
the autos can not be. (complex answer, skippped)
testing the autos is hard but on ice easy
if the tires spin up front you have a good lockup there.
forced to do that.... need videos of that , easy. ask.

btw the GEO name is just a badge (from GM)
its really a: SUZUKI
vitara world wide or sidekick usa
open hood, look up, see that sticker, "SUZUKI"
car was made in CAMI plant in Canada.

PT tests and horrors to avoid.

91 geo tracker died while driving and havent been able to get it started since

old post, still down? Melissa?
the starter must spin the crank shaft, does it?
my guess is the distributor rotor dont spin
and the cam belt snapped, (not replaced every 60,000 miles does that like clock work)
0 compression x4?
rotor dead?

My 1996 geo tracker won't stay in 4 wheel high

what does that mean? 2wd to 4wd fails, sure.
my guess, is you are on PAVEMENT (not ice,. or dirt?)
and never read the operators guide?
http://ge.tt/7WrBuI91/v/0?c

nor this?

this car is part time 4wd it is not AWD , full time all wheel drive.
and most not be driven on dry pavement in 4wd. or 4Hi, 4LO

or you will break good parts.

I have a 92 Tracker, almost trouble free, but lately it won't always start. when it doesn't start I can hear a low clicking noise from around the fuse box kinda like a relay switch or something. I found...

That's a starter relay ,sounds like your starter may be the problem. The small wire at the starter start connection is where you need to check that you are getting 12v when you turn the key to start. If you do get voltage than for sure it's starter issuses.

1991 Geo Tracker only starts with starting fluid.

Check fuel filter on both vehicles...After that check fuel pressure ...Blocking off air flow to engine will change the fuel air mixture...air deprivation changes (lessens) air flow and fools engine into reading more fuel than is actually there. Mass air flow sensor should also be checked/cleaned if no results obtained by filter change if pressure is OK.
