SOURCE: 2004 BMW 545 active steering fault

after replacing the battery, battery replacement has to be registered in the power module.Newer bmw's can experience battery draw issues. usually after battery replacment the active steering has to be re-aligned. you can try turning the steering wheel lock to lock to see if that solves your problem (usually only works on older cars) if you can find a shop that has a GT1 (bmw's older diagnostic equipment) they should be able to reset the light. At the same time if the vehicle has a battery draw and the power module is disconnecting the battery when the charge level gets low, that is your root problem and you will end up with an active steering fault over and over

SOURCE: x-type jaguar automatic (gear box fault)

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.

I have a 2005 BMW 745i. It won't come out of park. Someone mentioned that there is not enough pressure because a sealant need to be replaced in the transmission shaft. Is this a costly repair, and will it...

Hi normally most E39/E60 BMW electronic gearboxes have a safety lock connected to foot brake which restricts gear selection unless driver apply;s foot brake.this could be a possible fault ,gear linkage have come loose, otherwise internal gearbox fault ,this will require a full diagnostic fault code report to determine that faults are permanent or intermittent . low transmission oil level can cause this problem.

What Gearbox should be in a 1991 BMW 525i E34

Hello,

The safest way for you to know which gearbox fits your car (second hand) you first have to go to a parts shop with your VIN and get the code and the model for your gearbox.

Don't just rely on car year and engine power.

Hope this helps

1996 bmw 316 1st gear popping out, how to fix transmission?

Salam Omar, When a gear pops out from the selected position it usually means you have a problem with the synchromesh clutch ring or cone inside the gearbox. The job you are thinking of undertaking is a very major job and one which technicians usually choose is to replace the gearbox. There are two different types of gear box used on BMW and if you want to carry on with the job you need to identify which of those boxes is fitted to your car. The one is a close ratio gearbox and the other touring. Let me know what you decide and we'll see where to go from there. If you decide on a rebuild we have a lot of work ahead. Shalom John

It may have jumped to N and not P

This can only happen if you shift it by moving the gear stick. It is possible for Park to not work and appear to be in neutral as the little pin that locks the gears to hold the car can get broken. This will require a visit to your local gearbox expert.

Bmw 330 d step/auto gear box oil level ,location

Hello There

There is no dipstick to check the oil with. The only thing you can do is to top up the oil to makixum level. There are two 17mm bolts on the gear box, accessed from under the car, the one at the bottom is for draining the oil, there is one on the side if the gearbox which is the one you need to add gearbox oil.

Hope this helps. Please don't forget to rate me.

Many Thanks

Switch

on the gearbox n/s u will see a cable that moves it from park etc.
when this twist just a little it thinks u r moving the stick across.
if u undo the 13mm nut and turn just a liitle bit tighten it.
check your speedo cluster that the gear it says is correct to what gear stick says, if not adjust again until correct.
i had this problem myself and this was the case after i fitted a engine, engine and box has to come out.
