I'm looking for the main battery fusible link on a 1998 BMW Z3 looking for its location

SOURCE: Thermostat location

you didn't mention what size engine you have, so i assumed its a 1.8L. thermostat is located at the housing just above the waterpump on the front of the engine. its #5 in the attached link http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CJ11&mospid=48077&btnr=11_1393&hg=11&fg=35

it wont be a dip stick as such it will be a single bolt on the side of the gearbox remove this then top up the gearbox until the oil starts weeping out of this hole wait for it to stop leaking then replace the bolt job done!

They're not shocks they're struts. It requires spring compressors and air impact tools.


Unless you have them and the know how how to compress strut springs. don't do it. It can be dangerous.

It's why it's a lot of money to have it done.

There you go - goto the index of this PDF, find fuses p160 or something, theres a picture of the "distribution Box" right hand side of engine about 1/3 way back - thats where the links are.

That present just got really expensive. A short circuit like you are talking about could have damaged a lot of things in the car.
This could be caused due to no voltage at the battery junction block at the 6mm2 black wire, which is located in the engine compartment, which will result in no electrical current to the DME main relay and fuel pump.
To remedy:
Open the harness and inspect the fusible link which is located approx 6 inches from the battery terminal. If the fusible link is open then use an ohmmeter on the vehicle side of the link to ascertain if a short to the ground has caused the fusible link to open. Replace the fusible link if:

black plastic fuse box in the engine compartment on the left side of the car close to the firewall. The fuse is 30 Amp; it is fuse number 32 (the location diagram is on the inside of the lid on the fuse box).

The ECU would be another place to look. This is really sad and I can see you could spend a lot of money chasing a solution. My suggestion is, spend the money once, go to an Auto Electrician and get them to provide the answer which should be pretty quick.

If you are looking for the location of the Steering Wheel, it is underneath the manifold close to the air filter.
