Audi A4 Cabriolet roof stopping half way open

Sorry to have to say that my roof problems started April 2008, and it has been back to the Audi dealer 6 times last year, once in March 2009 and have just come back from taking the car back AGAIN today for the same fault.

Numerous things have been previously listed as done, including "loose linkages" which were 'locktighted' and the switch in the cockpit has been replaced but 2 new boot switches haven't been mentioned yet - perhaps that will be todays' answer!

I've been told that there is nothing wrong with the roof and that mine is the only car known to them to have this problem, the implication has been that I do not know how to operate a switch. The roof had worked superbly for the previous 2 years, then this started.

Having a car with a repeatedly unreliable roof system is not what I expected when I bought an otherwise excellent car and is of no use to me. How can I sell it when the first thing any potential dealer/buyer will want to see is the roof working?

Does anyone know why this problem keeps happening and just how can I fix it once and for all?

Refer to the owners manual, for instructions to put down roof by hand, they are not easy to follow, however, the manual key they refer to is in the fuse panel, the 1st lock to undo is in the middle section of the back seat, next the lock for the front section push down roof and lock in place. the warning light at this point will still be flashing, and the display saying roof unsecure. the bit everyone seems to forget is to go back to the middle back seat lock and relock, once that is done, display clears, and both roof and boot should work. i have no idea why this fault occured just hoping its doesn't too often. suggest also you always have engine on when operating roof. hope you find this usefull.

I recently bought a 2004 A4 Cabriolet for my wife from a private seller. The day before I was due to travel down and purchase the vehicle she called me and said that this exact problem had materialised with the roof. I negotiated a discount and went ahead with the deal. Took it to an Audi mechanic who fitted a new control unit. Now works perfectly. He told me that a modified part had been introduced to rectify this fairly common problem with this model.

Audi Convertible Roof broken

i can,t see why all these should need to be replaced, you need to get a more detailed report of what exactly they want to replace and for what reason in my experience dealerships dealing with roof faults will replace parts one by one untill the problem is fixed and surely the dealer should cover the cost of the repair if the roof faulted after only 3 weeks

Roof stuck half open.

There's a hidden side pannel that you pry open. It's located on the drivers side of the side-dash. Basically open the drivers side door and try to pry open the side of the dash console. It's right inside there with all the fuses and things.
