If there is fluid on the ground in the mornings, then you have a leak in a hose or fitting that needs to be fixed/replaced. If there is no leaks, the pump may be faulting and needs to be replaced. If it completely kicks out before a corner, this could be devastating as you'll have to pry at the wheel to be able to move it.
If it's leaking fluid and air is getting into the system, that would cause the symptoms you're talking about. Get it checked out

If it's not a serpetine belt, max deflection of 3/4" on longest segment should be safe, don't make alternator belt tight as a drum or you will burn out alternator bearings quickly. If it has serpentine belt, the spring tensioner should keep the belt properly tensioned unless it's worn out.
It only needs to be tight enough to not slip, too loose will squeal and you will have to tighten, to tight will kill alternator and you will spend $$.
