I will be replacing my 6.0L on my 2001 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 someday. If I buy a crate engine, will the 5.3L or the 5.7L Vortec be direct replacements? What else would I have to do? What about the ECM?

No it will not work, the Vortec 5.7 is a completely different engine design, either use a 6.0L or a 5.3, they are in the same engine family.

I own a 2001 chevy siverado z71 4x4 v8 4.8 vortec engine, Is not starting changed battery, alternator, spark plugs, and the starter is spinning the serpintine belt and its still not starting What else could...

If the engine is turning over than none of the things you replaced will make the engine"start". You will need to check for fuel pressure and spark first.

My 4 wheel drive will not ingauge but the push button saids it in 4x4

I believe this vehicle 4x4 system works on vacuum. If there is a slight leak it will not change correctly. Had same issue with mine. Said there was a SMALL leak in a T piece. They replaced it and all was well.

Find location of pvc valve for 2001 GM silverado 2500HD 8100 vortec engine. I think I have found it however it does not appear evident. This item is on the top of the engine, has a black plastic covering...

Its hard to know what you are looking at, or why. The PCV valve should be in one of the valve covers, Some engines have a heater so it doesnt freeze up and not plug with ice.

Hard cold starting

This is a fuel pump pressure issue, it is not holding pressure, you must remove the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump, also replace the fuel tank connector.
