97 pathfinder brake lights will not go off - 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

Check bulbs. If the fuse was out none of the 3 would work. Either a bulb or wiring issue.

Someone needs to scan the engine computer for trouble codes to proceed with testing.

i know this sounds crazy, but do you have break/tail lights?some cars shut off dash lites when tail/brake lights dont work

Check battery cables make sure clean ground to chassis from batt.

Why dont you try just changing the bulbs on the brake lights

THE CLICKING NOISE IS THE SHIFTER LOCK RELEASING, NOTHING TO DO WITH BRAKE LITES. CHECK FOR GOOD GROUNDS AT REAR LIGHT SOCKETS.

Check the brake light switch. It is in the drivers floor board, behind the brake peddle. The switch looks like a box with a button on it. the brake peddle is pressed, and presses the brake light switch. If the switch sticks, the brake lights will stay on.

Most of the time you can find the fuse panel either on the driverside under the steering column near the sidewall. Or it could be under then hood.

Change the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm. Go down to the parts store and ask for a new brake liight switch for your Pathfinder and look up under the dash where the brake pedal arm goes and you will see the switch. You will need to unplug the wires to your old one and disconnect it and install the new one the same way. It is pretty much self adjusting once the brake pedal is released. If the brake light does not go out adjust the switch pin to be longer so it will depress when the pedal is released
