The click you hear is the solenoid on the starter motor, its like a relay, your problem is the battery doesn't have enough in it to turn the starter / engine which is why all other lights go out when you try to start. You need to try and charge your battery but be aware that if it is 5 years old or more it may not take a charge and you will have to buy a new one

Testimonial: "Thanks. I will try this as soon as get off work."

when I disconnected the positive cable it was corroded on the inside. I could not see it until I took it apart. I cleaned it up with baking soda and the car started right up. It had me puzzled because I drove the car the previous evening and everything seemed fine. Thanks for the help.

The solenoid is on the starter. The starter is located on the engine between the radiator and engine next to oil pan.

SOURCE: 2001 Chevy Impala won't start

If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.

Where is the starter relay located on a 1992 olds 88 royale

It's piggybacked on to the starter.
1992 olds 88 royale starter solenoid Google Search

Also, check the neutral safety switch - Put your foot on the brake and put the car in neutral. Then try to start it. If it starts the neutral safety switch is bad. It could be the ignition switch. It could be to starter solenoid. Does it have an inertia switch? They rarely go bad but I have seen it.

1995 olds royale 88; fixed fuel pump, starts then shut it off and re start but nothing happens; sat over night, started right up three times in a row but the fourth not a chance; what's wrong?

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, key switch, or a list of other things.

OK.....turn key ignition on....can hear fuel pump doing its thing.....try to start engine....engine turns over easy....it almost wants to start....like it coughs a bit....but just doesn't come to life....

Get a fuel gauge and check the pressure. Should be around 40. Spray some carb cleaner into intake and see if it runs a moment then you know if you have a fuel related problem. Reply mine has 310,000 miles on it.

Same problem ..hopefully some expert will answer my questions.....My mechanic has spent over 10 hours of troubleshooting my cruise control for a 1995 olds 88 royale ls. Everything (including voltage test...

some cruise controll systems use the center high mount stop lighy [third brake light] as an input for the cruise control if its not working the cruise wont either. all fault diagnosis would conclude that if everything checks ok then the computer is at fault. but i would dought all checks ok. a skilled mechanic should be able to diagnose the problem in 1.5 hours and that is a generous time alotment.10 hours is extreme. so mabee a second diagnosis should be performed
