One of your courtesy light switch's is defective, it can be in any of the five doors (rear hatch has 2), Ford can determine which one (courtesy light switch) is at fault by using a NGS (New Gen Star Tester) to monitor the switches through the Generic Electronic Module of your truck, these switches are attached to the door latch assembly and are time consuming to replace, so the Ford tester is the cheapest option.

If you mean the outside rearview mirrors, they have a courtesy light called a puddle light. And if not working, you may have the interior overhead light turned off on its selector switch.
Usually this is caused by the rear hatch or rear tailgate window not being fully closed. Some models may have an extra courtesy switch in the rear cargo area that is intended for "picnic" mode and overrides the automatic shutoffs.
There is suppose to be a battery "minder" which is suppose to keep the battery from discharging when lights are left on. You may need a dealer to explain why this feature has not worked.

the cable that controls the mirror is more than likely broken or if it's gear driven the gear is stripped or broke. I would first try to take the switch apart and clean it

Sounds like you might need to replace them, I would look online for some used mirrors.
