SOURCE: need to replace transmission line to the cooler on a GMC Sierra

Its fairly easy, you dont have to replace the fittings at the cooler. if they are leaking up at the cooler, it needs to be replaced, but if not, its just simple line to line, not too long of a process

please rate well! hope this gives you the info you needed!

SOURCE: transmission oil (little) leaking -

Hi!!
First you got to pinpoint where the leak is coming from. Place a couple of sheets of newspaper under vehicle, wait 30 min. to an hour and look under the vehicle at the newspaper sheets, where you see transmission fluid, look up, that's where the leak is.
The most common places where the transmission leaks are:

  • Transmission fluid pan,
  • transmission cooling lines (there are 2 steel lines that carry fluid to a cooler coil in front of the radiator and back.) due to the location, going over a bump or a rock may kink, bend or puncture one of the lines.
  • Transmission front or rear seals.
You are talking about a tube, I assume you are referring to one of the cooling lines. If it is leaking at one of the terminals, usually at the transmission fluid cooler in front of the radiator, some times just tightening a little will take care of the problem. If the line is punctured, remove the line and take it to a hardware store like ACE Hardware or similar to have them install a pressure fitting. If you are to DIY, no need to remove the line. It can be done from under the vehicle. Either way, the cost of the repair will be about $10. If you take it to a Shop, God knows how much it'll be!!
Have a Merry Christmas!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

I think I added too much transmission fluid to my car. Will that damage anything? Is there anything I can do about it?

To much oil in the transmission ( auto)will cause frothing of the oil and overheating problems, along with slipping and changes problems
If you filled it through a dip stick tube then find a shop that has an oil syringe ( probably an auto transmission shop) and place a tube down the dip stick tube and suck out the excess oil
failing that you can remove a transmission cooler line from the side of the transmission and let it drain out

Check the oil cooler, or transmission oil cooler. Check transmissin fluid check oil. If the sluge is brown suspect oil, if the sludge is pink or red suspect transmission oil cooler in radiator.

Why is there oil in the radiator??

If you are certain it is engine oil then you have a blown head gasket. Transmission fluid also runs in separate passages in the radiator because the radiator contains the transmission cooler as well. Sometimes the transmission cooler inside the radiator can bust and cause transmission fluid to mix with the coolant. You need to be certain if it is oil or trans fluid you are seeing.

How do you replace the transmission cooler on my 89 oldsmobile cutlass supream

Your trans cooler is located inside one of the radiator tanks and would be expensive to replace.
You can either replace the radiator with new or used or cut the lines and install an external cooler as is used for towing. If the cooler in the radiator is leaking, you need to flush the system to remove as much oil as possible or it will cause hoses to soften and fail. Also wise to change trans fluid as well.
Always use double clamps when running rubber lines for cooler so they don't slide apart under pressure.

My 1999 Olds Intrigue, 3.5 motor, auto trans, heats up when going uphill. Going downhill, or on a flat road, with the same number of RPMs, it does not. Recently had the engine cooling system flushed, and...

could be a good candidate for the overheating problem
it is probably the oil line that goes to the oil cooler in the radiator and if it doesn't have sufficient flow then the oil in the transmission gets progressively hotter
before replacing it consider this
transmission oil coolers that are in the radiator tank keep the oil at coolant temps which is around 95 C
if you spend a bit of cash and fit an air to air transmission cooler , it brings the operating temp of the oil down to 1/2 ambient temp
besides the fact that your are now removing an added heat source from the coolant of the engine the results are --cooler running engine and cooler running transmission
worth talking to an accredited transmission specialist shop
