Is this screeching like a sqealing? It will be a belt problem, the belt is slipping on the pulley system you may be able to adjust tension or spray on some belt dressing but will most likely need to change the belt hope this helps you,good luck

If your third brake light is working, then we know it is not the brake switch. Get a test light and check to see if you have power at the light socket. If power is present possible bad ground. If no power, check connections inside of the trunk. Also choose a spot just behind the back seat to be sure that power is on the brake light wire, this will check for possible break along wire.

It's still worth checking/ replacing the two rear bulbs ,, Because the 3rd brake bulb is usuall a different type of bulb compared to the two lamps in the rear panel . different life span and less prone to oherheating and shortening life span ob bulb. Good Luck
