SOURCE: rattling sound in steering (at low speeds)

I sounds like you need to grease the intermediate shaft. GM sells a kit that consists of a plug and a bag of grease for around $18. It has been a few years since I bought it so the price could have went up. They also offer an update shaft for around $100. I am nearly 100% sure this is your problem. I have a 03 Yukon and have done it 3 times in 120,000 miles.

There are a few other posibilities, but they are not so cheap. The next logical problem could be the power steering pump or the valve in the gear box.

SOURCE: the car makes a howling noise while driving it

well did the noise start after the tires were rotated?could be choppy tires,,,if not ,i strongly think it sounds like a bad wheel bearing,,,,if you drive and while its making the noise turn left and right quick and see if the noise gets louder and which way turning makes it louder,,if you turn leftand it gets louder its usually the right wheels bearing as you are putting load on it, if it makes the noise louder while turning right its the left wheel bearing,,,got it

next time you try to start the car just put the key in and turn the ignition on dont try to start it to see if your security light comes on. if any kind of security light come on or flashes call a dealer to find out how to reset the system. if u have the wireless transponder for the security the battery may have gone dead

Loud rattle sound when Idling

I suggest you have your car checked as soon as possible - while a rattling exhaust isn't desperately urgent it could be the cat breaking up which might later restrict the flow of gases. Most importantly excessively loose timing belts or chains tend to make most noise when the engine is idling. If the noise is being caused by this delay could be very expensive.

My 2004 Prius has a rattling metallic sound on acceleration. It is coming from the top of the engine on the passenger side. Does anyone know what this can be?

Does the car make this sound when the car has just been turned off and engine is still hot? Lightly push the car back and forth while it's in park. Does it still make that sound?

My 2000 Subaru Outback has a loud rattle from the rear gate (ie door)

Check your rear stabilizer bar an make sure that all the bolts are still intact. You may also want to crawl under the vehicle and give your muffler a shake to ensure that no mounts are missing. these are the most common issues associated with rattling from the rear of vehicle.

Rattleing noise between 2500-3500 rpms 01 protege

Have you checked the catalytic converter (also reffered to as simply a Cat by mecanics)? It's the first big canister you encounter on the exhaust line right after the manifold and before the resonator and/or muffler. After a while rust and time can cause either the casing itself to come loose and rattle, or the insides themselves break up and rattle around the cat. And being where it is it often resonates sound around the engine compartment, making it seem the sound is coming from elsewhere than it actually is. And while your at it don't forget to check the flex pipe usually connected to the cat also (some models do not have a flex pipe though). If all that is fine, then the other things to check would be the accessory brackets, wire holders and the like. With vibration and time, sometimes they loosen up and start to rattle. Still nothing? check the suspension parts for anything loose (IE. sway bar links, coils springs, tie-rod, suspension tables). Other than that there isn't much in there that can rattle. If you look at how an engine is built, you'll see that there isn't much inside that can rattle around without causing the engine to fail altogether. I'm not saying it can't happen though, but it's highly improbable. Hope this helps

Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
