an oil change will not turn the light off, this light means a fault has occurred in the electronic engine/emission controls, the easiest thing to do is go to any Kragen or Autozone part store and have them run a trouble code test,it is free, then post the code(s) back here on Fixya.

You can take the car back to Mercedes Benz they should reset the oil change light and get all the radio codes for you for free. They don't suppose to charge you!!!!

Sounds like a problem with a weak sensor and the computer. You need to get your mechanic to code the car as to rule out any problems with the computer or the sensors. Your car is about the right year for those sensors to start getting weak. When the computer reads those sensors that then sets things. So if the sensor is getting weak, it would not be reading things right so your car would be not running so good. I would be looking at the Throttle Position Sensor. If after coding the car and nothing show up there. I would be checking for a vacuum leak they will often cause this problem. And one more thing when is the last time you did a good tune up on the car? Stark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor? Air filter might be something to look into too. I hope this helps and good luck!

How do you turn off or reset the "Service Engine Soon " light off without taking my Infinity I35 to dealer. Trying to avoid $200.00 dealer charge!
SOURCE: Service Engine Soon light reset.
The Service Engine Soon light comes only when the engine computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system, it is not related to the oil change, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.
Testimonial: "Thanks! I guess the person that told me it was an oil change light was not quite up to speed. I'm off to AutoZone."
