I have a 2002 nissan altima (2.5) and when it is running there is black smoke coming out of the exhaust tailpipe. Also I have noticed that there is a loss of oil level. No oil drops visible, no oil leaks visible.
Smoke is black, not blue or white.
Can you help guide me in the right direction for correcting issue???
I appreciate any assistance that you may be able to give me.
Thank you,
To begin with, check for fuel in engine oil and do a compression test. If fuel system is not functioning properly (running rich) that will point you in one direction (temp sender, pressure regulator , map or airflow sensor etc) If compression is low, you may have internal engine problem (burned piston, broken ring, or combination of fuel problem causing gas washed cylinders)
I do not think that oil is burning,it must be that it is burning too much fuel that is causing that black smoke, check out for that fuel consumption, before u move anywere
Change the the manifold gasket
I've had the same problem, have been adding AT least a quart of oil a week, apparently there are tons of sites with same info and everything I've done to date has not resolved the problem-- new cat, new spark plugs, new coils, new O2 sensors...
