Has to be programmed ,yes .
Body Control Module (BCM) Replacement
If the BCM is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the subsequent order:
• BCM Reprogramming--Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
• Theft Learn--Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent.

A new body control module (BCM) must be programmed with the proper regular production option (RPO) configurations. The BCM stores the information regarding the vehicle options and if the BCM is not properly configured with the correct RPO codes, the BCM will not control all of the features properly. The Tech 2 software will automatically prompt you with the RPO available for the vehicle. Ensure that the following conditions exist in order to prepare for BCM programming:
• The battery is fully charged.
• The ignition switch is in the ON position.
• The data link connector (DLC) is accessible.
• All disconnected modules and devices are reconnected before programming.
To setup a new BCM, access the Vehicle Control Systems in Computer/Integrating Systems menu on the scan tool to program the BCM. Select Module Replacement/Setup and follow the instructions on the scan tool.
If the BCM fails to accept the program, perform the following steps:
• Inspect all BCM connections.
• Verify that the scan tool has the latest software version.

SOURCE: air filter on chevy hhr

The air filter is in the large plastic cover that covers the engine.
1. Remove MAP sensor connector ( slightly hidden under the front center edge of the housing. Wiggle slightly and pull straight out).
2, Loosen (but don't remove) the large hose clamps on the passenger side and center of the housing, It's a tight fit for the hands on the passenger side and the head of the clamp is facing away from you. The front center hose is stiff, but pliable, so take your time.
3. The air filter housing was designed as a snap in with rubber grommets. A firm steady pull with the front passenger side will show you how much effort it will take to pull it free. Do each of the remaining two separately. The housing will be free to remove from the vehicle.
4. On a clear area, turn the housing over and loosen the seven torx type screws (they will not come completely off, so as not to lose them). Pull the cover off. Remove the old filter and replace with your new one. Align the cover and snug the screws back in.
5. Reassembly requires lining up those rubber grommets to the mounting studs.... take your time.... all that is needed is a firm downward push to seat them.
6. Reattach the large hose clamps and remember to plug in the MAP sensor (you'll get an "check engine" light if you forget.

Hope this helps.

2007 HHR no chimes or radio

You might look into Flagship One https://www.fs1inc.com/. They can deliver a module preprogrammed to factory configuration specific to VIN. Otherwise you'll need to have it programmed by a mobile tech that provides the service or haul it to a chevy dealer.

Location of turn signal flasher 2006 HHR chevy where is it located

Unlike older vehicles, the flashers on the HHR are controlled by the BCM.

If your turn signals are blinking rapidly, check the bulb connections for signs of corrosion. Clean any corroded connectors & add some dielectric grease before replacing.

2006 chevy cobalt - door won't open

Start with the basics. Check the fuses (all of them) with a test light and be sure you have power to each and that they are good. Then be sure that the power lock relay is good by swapping it with another relay in the fuse block. If the fuses are good and the relay is swapped and the locks still aren't functioning, you may have an issue with the BCM. The BCM can be programmed to change the behavior, but if the car has had water damage, or other stress to the BCM (voltage, heat, etc.), it can sometimes damage the BCM and you will need to replace it and reprogram it at a GM dealership.
