Bed removal - Cars & Trucks

disconnect all electrical wiring that is attached to the bed then disconnect the fuel filler tube. there is 4 bolts that hold the bed to the frame that you will have to remove. some trucks the bolts are removed from inside the bed and others from under the bed though the frame. then get help to pickup the bed and turn it to gain access to the pump or remove the bed from the frame.

There are 4 bed bolts under the bed on each side that need removed, also 1 bolt on each side for the ground for the tail lights, and 3 screws in gas door for the filler neck. And then get a couple buddies to help lift off the bed or use tie-down straps and an engine lift and lift the bed off.

Removing the bed is in no way easier than just dropping the fuel tank, and the fuel tank was designed to easily be dropped down from the vehicle. Who ever told you that removing the bed was the easier way is certainly not an auto technician or even a mechanic.

To be quite honest, in my past experience,the easiest way to replace it is to remove the bed. Take out the three small bolts inside the fuel door. Unplug the wire harness from the rear bumper area, take out the 6 bolts that hold the bed on. If it's a six foot bed, or even an 7 foot bed, it's pretty easily lifted by 2 people. It can be done on a lift by leaving the bed on. But I've removed somewhere in the area of 10 of these in the last year. Less time consuming to just pull the bed off.

you can remove the bed to get to the top of the tank or remove the tank I think it is easier to remove the bed

Iusually pull the bed up if the tank in full.remove the bed bolts spare tire lift bracket where it goes through the bed taillight wiring unplug connector remove screws on the filler pipe and the ground stra.get buddy lift the bed up and move the bed three steps to the rear of the truck.front of bed is now over the rear tire lower bed on tire and you are now over the fuel tank with full access to pump assembly without any problems.

lifting the truck bed off the frame works best if you dont have a lift..take the fuel neck loose from bed and remove bolts holding bed to frame from the drivers side..loosen the bolts on passenger side..raise the bed on drivers side while watching bumper to bed clearance on passenger side.. you should get enough clearance to remove fuel pump from tank

make sure you get the right pump, you need to know your tank size. then take off your bed. you have i believe 6 bed bolts, disconnect tail lights (unplug from underneath) remove bed grounding strap 1 screw, remove bed with help. Disconnect wires, unscrew fuel pump, replace pump. Reverse order to replace bed. jim

get under the bed you have 4 to 6 bolts that run on each corner of the bed to frame rails , look thru holes in frame for big bolt heads to remove the bed, easy , hope this helps you ,thanks robert b.
