If there is no blueish smoke from the exhaust then the oil is leaking. if there is, then the engine is burning it. was a new head gasket installed? it should have been. was the head bolts properly torqued to specification. the mating surfaces (head and block) might have been gouged

2004 Mitsubishi Galant I want to know if my engine if they are in interference my tummy bell broke

OK, you want to know if the 2004 Galant is an interference engine, because of a broken timing belt. Your car has the 2.4L engine, and its not quite an interference engine, but its very close. A broken belt MIGHT not have damaged valves when the belt failed. Your garage should be able to look at the valve gear and see if any valves are jammed. It's also possible to look in each cylinder with an endoscope camera for any valve damage. A new belt can be fitted, and the engine turned over to test compression. If there are problems spotted, then the head has to come off and the the damaged valves replaced.

Can i fix my 2003 mitsubishis bent valve or do I have to replace the whole engine?

It depends on how much damage the valves did or didn't do to the pistons when they hit and bent. At the very least you're looking at a cylinder head rebuild job. But if the valves hit the pistons hard, you're looking at a new engine.

The timing belt on my 2003 galant broke. A shop is saying they can replace the head while another shop said I need a new engine. Do I definitely need a new engine? Can I get away w/ just fixing the heads?...

4 or 6 cylinder? you say "heads" so I assume its a V6? A interference engine does NOT require a new engine. unless upon disassembly there is severe piston damage. A 2003 Galant isn't going to be worth putting in a $ 2500-3000 new engine. A car that has had scheduled service usually doesn't break the belt, its replaced long before that happens. Yes, you can take the heads off and get it serviced, new valves etc. On a V6 you also want to replace the water pump.

2003 Galant 4cyl .. After not knowing Car timing belt was what broke ..Car was attempted to turn on various times... How will I know if I have to re-built the engine ?

The Galant has an interference engine, when the timing belt breaks the valves stop and the pistons strike them. At the least you need a new head. There is really no way to tell how much damage was done without tearing the engine apart.

When to change timing belt on 2003 mitsubishi galant

Most timing belt suppliers recommend 50k to 60k miles for replacement. Your Galant has a interference engine meaning that if the belt fails your will incur major engine damage up to and including replacement of the entire engine.

So if you have over 60k miles on the car go ahead and change the belt, and while you have it apart replace the water pump.

WERE ARE THE TIMING MARKS ON A 2003 GALANT 2.4. THE TIMING BELT BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 3-4 MPH AND POP. I RELACED THE BELT BUT LOOKIN FOR THE DIAGRAM I SEE THAT THERE IS TWO BELTS A CRANK BALANCER...

I hate to have to tell you this, but the 2.4L (4g64) is an interference engine. That means when the timing belt broke, the pistons hit the valves, causing at least a few of them to bend.

here is the overhaul section of the factory service manual for the 2.4L. its technically from the eclipse manual but it will work for the galant. The intake manifold and exhaust manifolds may not be the same but the head, block and timing belt sections are exactly the same.

also here is a walk thru (with pics) for the timing belt procedure:

1998 GALANT W/ 130,000 MI. TIME TO CHANGE THE

Should be on your 2nd timing belt. If you have the 4cyl engine there is a balance belt that needs to be changed also. Mitsubishi recomends replacement at every 60,000 miles, your 10k over. Most of the time these motors are not interferance engines, But I have seen a few that broke a belt at high rpm that did bent valves......
