Knock sensor tells the engine computer when one or more of your engine's cylinders are "knocking", that is, exploding the air/fuel mixture in a way that delivers less power and can be damaging to the engine if prolonged. The computer uses this information to tune the engine so that it doesn't knock. If your knock sensor on Bank #1 is generating a low output voltage (perhaps under 0.5V), then it will trigger a P0327 DTC. This P0327 code may show up intermittently or the Service Engine light may be lit constantly. Other knock sensor related DTC codes include P0325, P0326, P0328, P0329, P0330, P0331, P0332, P0333, and P0334.

SOURCE: knock sensor

The knock sensor threads into the side of the cylinder block.

  1. Disconnect electrical connector from knock sensor.
  2. Use a crow foot socket to remove the knock sensors.
INSTALLATION
The knock sensor threads into the side of the cylinder block in front of the starter.

  1. Install knock sensor. Tighten knock sensor to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.) torque. Over or under tightening effects knock sensor performance, possibly causing improper spark control.
  2. Attach electrical connector to knock sensor

The knock sensor is a major pain in the a..s to change I would suggest taking it to a reputable shop for a second opinion to see if they realy performed the work. Also with OBD11 (2) diagnostics if you have multiple misfires its not the wires its something else, also if you got a code for a misfire it would be specific as to which cylinder is misfiring. My best guess would be to get your coil checked.

SOURCE: check engine light on

Diagnostic code produces P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold-Bank 1. Probable causes are listed as follows:
1-air leak in exhaust before rear 02 sensor, 3-Fuel system fault,
4-faulty catalytic converter.

SOURCE: Service soon light stays on.. had it checked at

no, 30 minutes labor--you can do it yourself. part is $30. You have 2 of them. 327 is for bank 1, which is the back bank by the firewall. see picture below (the picture is bank 2, but location is same on other side).

To replace the knock sensor:

  • Disconnect the knock sensor wiring connector.
  • Then, unscrew the sensor.
  • Remove the knock sensor.
  • Reverse the procedures to install the part.
  • fed2730.gif
A defective knock sensor may cause engine detonation or reduced spark advance and fuel economy. When a knock sensor is removed and replaced, the sensor must be tightened to its specified torque. If the knock sensor is installed tighter than it should be, it may become too sensitive and provide an excessively high voltage signal, resulting in more spark ****** than required. When the knock sensor is installed looser than it should be, the knock sensor signal will be lower than normal, resulting in engine detonation.

Chevy cobalt 2010 scan code po641 reduce engine power

    Possible causes
    - Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
    - ECM harness is open or shorted
    - ECM circuit poor electrical connection
    - Shorted sensor on 5 volt circuit
help.jpg What does this mean? When is the code detected?
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected the sensor 5 volt reference circuit voltage is higher or lower than expected
    Possible symptoms
    - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
    P0641 Chevrolet Description
The control module has 2 internal 5-volt reference buses called "5-volt reference 1" and"5-volt reference 2". Each reference bus provided 5-volt reference circuit for more than one sensor. Therefore, a fault condition on one 5-volt reference circuit will affect the other 5-volt reference circuits connected to the reference bus. The control module monitors the voltage on the 5-volt reference buses.

As far as the cobalt, check tac/throttle actuator control. Below is circuit description for p1682.
The other codes was for knock sensor.

Check engine for knock sensor lighting up it says short/low bank 1

Check the wiring harnesses for bare or brittle spots. If none are found replace the spark plugs, all of them and spark plug wires. I know these are still fairly new but that is the next step. If you have over 60,000 miles on the vehicle it could be an issue with the timing chain but my experience tells me replace the crank Position sensor first if none of the other steps yield any results. Because these vehicles come with the power train warranties they do you can't really trust the Dealer Mechanics because they will do anything they can to prolong this to get the vehicle out of warranty.

I have a 99 oldsmobile bravada 4.3 jasper engine new with 61k and the service engine soon light came on and read a po327 knock sensor code Please tell me how to fix it and where its located on the engine

Hi, this code could indicate a wiring issue or a problem with the sensor itself. A new sensor is about $40. The sensor is on the back of the engine as shown in the picture below. If you have an ohmmeter, I recommend you check the continuity of the wire from the sensor to the computer. The computer is in the passenger side door pillar. Locate connector B, pin 19. You do not need to disconnect the computer to check continuity of the wire. Just probe the back of the connector at the dark blue wire, pull the connector off the sensor, and touch your other ohmmeter probe to the terminal in the knock sensor connector. There should be one ohm or less resistance in the wire. If resistance is higher than one ohm, repair or replace the wire. If resistance is good, unscrew and replace the sensor. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.
