I have a 1997 Grand Am 2.4 SE that won't start

I have a 1997 Grand Am 2.4 SE. When I turn the key nothing happens, however all of the lights work. Yesterday when I tried to turn the key it was trying to turn over, when I let the car key go it continued trying to turn over. Now nothing at all happens. This morning I replaced the starter and still nothing is happening when I turn the key. Any suggestions?

Check battery full charge, battery terminals are clean, cables aren't cracked, broken or corroded and alternator first.

Which your having replaced your starter with new already. If you're still getting nothing it sounds like a bad ignition switch.

They wear normally and need to be replaced. But as a helpful hint don't place excess keys or weighty trinkets on your ignition keys.

They wear on the seating of the key in the ignition and often promote failure in the ignition from bearing the dangling weight.

I have a Pontiac Grand am se 2.3 liter that won't start everything powers on but hen I turn the key to start it nothing happens not even a clicking to stay an get it t I start??

Turn on headlamps and try to start. Do lights dim? Yes= bad battery connections, low charge on battery, bad solenoid, bad starter. Not dimming? bad solenoid, bad starter switch, bad neutral safety switch, bad starter relay, bad ignition switch. Use voltmeter to see if ignition switch works, and so on.

Car won't start, seems to have power, all lights working. when I turn the key nothing happens. this only happens sometimes

Could be a bad alternator.. It may not be holding charge. Or your starter could have failed.

Though I've had the same problem and it was a dead battery in my vehicle. Had enough power, but to keep the car on..

Pontiac grand am se 2002 won't turn over and

my pontiac did the same thing and all i had to do was replace the 40amp fuse. you can have someone turning the key while you hit the starter from underneath, if it starts then you need a new starter, if it dont then no, its something else. mine did the exact same thing and it was the 40amp fuse under the hod.

no theres not and this is a common problem with gm. and if you are going to get it looked at question the dealership or shop about the scanner they have" tehc 2" and ask if the tech has worked on grand ams with this problem before . you dont need anyone that hasnt . Car want start but turns over

I had the same thing happen to my 2001 Grand Am. Do this.......just key the key, but don't turn it over. Your Security Light should be blinking. Let it blink for about 10 to 15 minutes, it should stay on after that. When it stays on, turn the key and it should start. I still have to do this once every 3 the 4 months, some sort of security problem that cost to much money to fix.
