The trans side of the axle has a round spring clip on the drive splines it just snaps in and out of the transmission, they can be very difficult to remove, esp. the first time they are taken out, takes allot of brute strength. I would suggest you push the axle in, it will move inboard a little, then try to pull back in a snapping motion, another thing the axle need to be in as straight a line as possible.

Remove the brake assy. Remove the rotor. Remove the big axle nut. There should be 3 bolts that hold the hub bearing assy in place. Remove those bolts. Tap the hub bearing assy. off. Pull the axle shaft out.

Be careful when supporting the lower control arm that any components are damaged with the supporting device.
Once the lower ball joint is separated from the knuckle, simultaneously push the axle shaft in towards the differential to allow room for the knuckle and assembly to be removed.

there is a vacuum switch on top of the transfer case it applies vacuum when the truck is shifted in to 4 wheel drive . if you connect it to direct vacuum you front axle will be engaged all the time

remove front wheel brakes,rotors, axle nut,remove the four bolts on the bake side of your unit bearing using one of the 4 bolts removed from the unit bearing (also knowin as wheel bearing) go get a half dozen of the same bolt only 1 to 2 inchs longer theard them into the unit bearing from the back side and start beating. the unit bearing is a sob to get out but will come out with time once you get it out pull out your axle shaft replace the ujoint and reassemble anti seize everything as you re assemble it

The lower control arm is a two-piece welded unit with a riveted ball joint. A conventional rubber bushing is used for the rear lower control arm pivot. The front lower control arm bushing is mounted vertically.
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Some special tools are required to perform this operation including, a front hub spindle removal tool and a suitable ball joint separator tool.
WARNING
Do not hammer or pry ball joint from knuckle. Failure to use recommended tools may cause damage to the ball joint and seal.
