Yes, very common across many GM vehicles. Just an electrical glitch basically. Does your car have a rear differential with a drain and fill interval? Fluid could be old and not doing it’s just 100% right all the time, thus triggering the traction control light. Especially when your lead footing it around sometimes. Hope this helps!
You'll have to scan for trouble codes first. Need to know what system is having the issue.
Stabilitrack and The ABS systems work together in several ways including wheel speed input several other components are involved but it may be fairly simple to diagnose. First thing you need to do is have the entire vehicle checked for codes to determine which vehicle system is causing the issue. Start with that and get back to me with any codes stored and in which control module they are set in.

SOURCE: Check Traction Control warning light
I can't give you an explanation for why the car is telling you to check trac. control but i can try to give some help on maybe fixing it. Try - turning on the car, turn the traction control off, turn the car off, turn the car on. Then turn the traction control back on and push the system check button. That should i guess "reset" the trac control system.
Now the noise from the front right of the car is MOST LIKELY the air compressor pumping air into the bags. (i own a 97 Continental but i've never had a problem witht the trac control)
SOURCE: abs light/traction control light
You can check out what the trouble code is by pushing and holding the information button and the up arrow (right side of instrument cluster above the radio) until all the instrument clusters light. Press the information button (last) to enter test mode. I've had an error C1234, meaning Left rear wheel sensor fault. I found the problem to be a corroded connector under the chasis just under the rear left door about 2 feet in. I had to by-pass (replace 1 wire due to corrosion at the connector.
SOURCE: check engine light keeps coming on & off on
If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.
A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.
This
light comes on when the computer detects a
fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this
issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has
detected that the issue may no longer be present.
In
order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to
have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that
the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages
will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have
caused the light to initially turn on.
SOURCE: I get intermittent ABS, traction control and power
Usually when I see this the problem it's related to one of the wheel speed sensors not giving the correct signal to the ABS system. A missing or faulty sensor reading will cause the ABS and related systems to turn off which causes the warning lamps to come on. The reason it works again once you have shut off the car is that the system resets and works until it sees the problem again. I would have the service codes read with a scan tool. Once that is done the problem is usually fairly easy to track down.
