I have a 2004 Ram 1500. The 4 wheel drive shifter is loose and won't go into 4 wheel drive. The vehicle will go in drive and reverse. Will this be ok to drive the vehicle.

check linkage or cable connections for damage or loose --if 4x4 is not actuating vehicle can be driven till repairs are made you will just not have 4wheel drive

How do I fix my shifter on my 2004 Ford Freestar Van?

The cable HOUSING has become loose from the anchor point. Get under with a hammer and a pliers and put back in place. Then persuade it to stay in place.

Saturn shifter cable

They have replacment shift linkage bushings on ebay, but a bit pricey. The bushing can be a Easy fix though if you have tools and time.
1st drill out the ball at the end of the linkage, this is the one your broken bushing use to ride on. Place a 3/8 inch bolt thru the drilled hole. Slide a piece of 3/8 inch heater hose over the bolt ( this is what the linkage ring rides on ) put a rubber gromet or rubber washer that has a hole big enough to fit over the heater hose on each side of the linkage ring ( oh and dont forget the lube - regular grease will eat rubber so use good judgement). put a washer big enough to keep your gromet or rubber washer from falling off, and then a lock nut, and I cannot stress the fact that it has to be a lock nut. DO NOT tighten the living **** out of everything, that little linkage ring is plastic after all just tighten it "lightly snugish" and just make sure your lock nut can't be un-tightened by hand. I hope all of this makes sense, anyway total repair cost- one hour of my time, about $4 of parts at the local auto parts store
