SOURCE: torquing head

The 98 Corolla has a "torque-to-distance" spec.

First, torque all 10 bolts to 36 ft lbs (49 NM or 500kgf-cm), in a clockwise fashion, starting with the 2 center bolts.

Second, mark the bolts with a paint mark, and then torque each of the 10 bolts an additional 90 degrees.

Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa.

SOURCE: when do i need to change my 2004 Toyota matrix XR

There isn't really a replacement interval for struts however if you notice that the ride is a lot more bouncy then it used to be or notice oil leaking from them it's time to replace. For a quick crude but effective test, using the palm of your hands push down on a corner of the vehicle a few times to get it bouncing up and down. If once you release it it continues to bounce for more then 2 or 3 times it might be time to replace the struts.

Shocks

1992 Toyota Celica is not equipped with front "shocks". This vehicle is equipped with front wheel drive and independent MacPherson strut front suspension. Any repairs made to this system requires the removal of the entire strut assembly, which includes the strut, the coil spring and upper strut bearing assembly.

Replacement of any of the parts of the strut assembly requires the use of specialized equipment designed to compress and hold the coil spring to relieve the tension on the strut and upper bearing assembly.

Any attempt to disassemble the strut assembly without the proper equipment for compressing and securely holding the coil spring can result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
