sensor is located under the front of the cars engine frame just above the radiator.

Pictures and Videos on how to replace. This took me 15 seconds to find, so I am guessing the tech didn't want to tell you because they wanted to change it. Having said that, it gives you little confidence in their ability.

1. get it serviced.
2. read the FSM , to do tests for S80
3. The FSM is sold at all dealers. of Volvo. the factory service manual.

Typically this means the gear selector module is faulty.

you should take to the dealer the can properly diagnose and repair with proper parts.may just be due for service.
the transmissions on that model use very specific fluids in each unit.so generic oils will not due.
furthermore the cost of replacement for the trans is very high in just labor alone. not trying to scare you or promote a dealer just saying it needs factory attension with factory tools

if you look in your owners manual in the glove box it will tell you how to reset it,it will be in the section oil life

remove your combine instrument,check bulb for clock,,replace if the bulb burn or failure.
