Hi
Check the Mass Air Flow sensor.
It seems to be a air intake issue.

Thanks

SOURCE: Car stuck in Park, wont switch gears

check to see if the brake lights come on it may be a problem with a brake switch under the dash not letting the shift lock release. there may be a seperate switch just for it so check and see it there is two switches touching the brake pedal lever if the brake lights come on.

SOURCE: 2001 nissan altima idle surges

I had same problem. It turned out to be intake gasket. If it surges when u come to stop or in park, u may want to look at corners of intake, spray something that burns around intake , if the idle levels out it is gasket.

SOURCE: 2002 nissan altima p0507 idle problem

I had the same problem before. after using the scanner i got a code number P0507. "Idle Air Control", New 2002 and up Nissan models like my Altima don't have an idle valve or sensor like older models to be replace. Here's the solution " Replace your "Throttle Chamber" the idle sensor is build in it, there is no other way to fix this problem. the throttle chamber is about $175.00 at your Nissan Dealer. The need your core or you will need to pay extra money. No need for expensive mechanic shop, you could do this your self. the throttle chamber is so easy to remove, four screws holds it together. I will take you about ten to twenty minutes to replace it. Please trust me and you will save big bucks!!!!!

SOURCE: rough idle, dies when trying to give it gas

it'll either be your ignition system (spark plugs, distributor cap, etc) or more likely your fuel system (most likely your fuel pump or your fuel filter)

SOURCE: I have intermittent rough idle

Replace the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Next, check the idle air control valve and replace it if found faulty. If it still shakes, have the timing checked out

Why does my 2006 altima rev up and down by itself while in park

When I was having problem with my 2005 Altima one of the problem was idles up and down and temp gauge surging. Check the coolant temp sensor was my problem. If coolant sensor is bad engine is trying to idle to compensate the engine temp. If you haven't try it yet than My suggestion is temp sensor.

2001 Nissan Altima idling high in parking or neutral

I have the same problem with my harrier 3000cc car. We have changed the idling sensor, airflow sensor. air filter, we have had the throttle checked, spark plugs, wiring and nothing works. The smell you are getting could be from your gear box, have it checked out early and if the gear shift is noticeable then you will need a gearbox specialist to open it and change the clutch plates. Good luck.

Got a 99 Nissan Altima 2.4, t-chain broke... replaced head and all t-components... start up surging idle and whistling off idle... engine runs smooth and great power off idle

the surging and whistling sounds like there might be a vacuum leak that is causing this.recheck all vacuum lines and surfaces were this is a gasket that seals a vacuum source.smooth running and good power off idle suggest this leak only affects the motor at a low(idle)rpm.

1997 Nissan Hardbody has rough idle/surges/stalls

the 2001 altima is what i have and I had the same problem as you. turned out to be a bad head gasket factory used cheap ones for a few years before they found the problem. one way to test this is to get a can of carborator cleaner and spray it around the area where the head meets the block under the intake problem should be around the 4th cylinder or close to driver side. if the head gasket is bad the rough idle will smooth out while you are spraying the head.

Heater bows cold when idling

Hya!
You need to bleed the cooling system.
To do this park on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle.
Have plenty of warm/hot water available, when engine reaches operating temp it may appear to boil over so keep away from coolant filler, top up with warm/hot water and wait as it may bubble over a few times before settling.
Replace cap and hopefully back to normal, Remember your Anti Freeze?
Good luck,
