The brake switch at the pedal does have six wires, but none go to the multifunction switch (on the steering column). The white wire with tan tracer goes to the combination flasher to be integrated with the turn signals/hazard lights. The combination flasher is under the dash next to the steering column and has a sixteen pin connector (ten of which have wires).

SOURCE: brake lights do not work

Have you checked both bulbs , also check closely on all the fuses. if you have to, use a test light and probe all fuses on both sides of the fuses

You can get any wiring diagram for any vehicle. It will cost about $12 and it's well worth it. It will give you the complete diagram bumper to bumper.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Dakota Trailer Brake Wiring

Call dealer & ask them to run your vin# to see if it came with towing package. They shouldn't mind. If not, you'll have to wire it in yourself.

SOURCE: trailer brake controller problem

I found the problem. Talking with a technician from the controller company, we determined that it was a fuse problem. I found that the fuse to the CHMSL was blown.

SOURCE: Hi I am installing a trailer electric brake

I belive it would be the wire that actually sends the control signal to the controller?...correct? well the if so you would need to tap into the wire casing with a test light to see which wire is lighting the test light when the brake pedal is depressed good luck

I am trying to make sure my brake controller is properly wired. my brakes do not work automatically when I press the brake pedal, but do work when I manually use switch on brake controller.

Use a test light and find the wire that has power when you press the brake pedal. This is the wire that you need to tap into for you trailer brake controller.

98 silverado no brake lights

The first thing is to check for power at the brake light switch, there should be power to one wire the other wire power up when pedal is pushed, this will tell you if it a power loss if theres no power to switch, if theres power to switch and through switch with pedal pushed then loog at the connect for signal switch its near column big connector as brake light power goes through switch you may have fryed that wire have some watch lights as you wiggle but this is only if you have power at brake switch. if theres no power then double check fuses even in the engine compartment, mostlikly it a fuse the wiring should not of burnt with a fuse in line, theres fuses in engine fuse box that also control lights.

Hooked up brake controller box to the wiring harness that came with my 07 dodge 1500. The digital display lights up when you use the manual slide on the brake controller, but not when you hit the brakes. I...

The wiring also needs to be connected to the brake light switch. That's what actuates the brake box. You must just have a faulty connection if that's hooked up already. Check that connection to the brake light switch to the box. Has to be good continuity/connection.

You will need a turn and brake signal box IF, you have different bulbs for brake and turn lamps. If the brake and turn bulbs are one(red)lens than no box will be required. Thanks, Dana
