motor mounts don't have anything to do with this problem. sensors and vacume lines do. You can start checking all your wires, and vacume lines first check to see nothing got crimped chipped, cracked or damaged in any way. If none of these its a sensor.

Check your tow/haul switch and see if it is stuck. May have to use diagnostics to see it. Unfortunately this would be dealer level diagnostics...

SOURCE: My Prado suddenly started shifting

The transmission shifting is late because the kick-down cable needs to be adjusted.Check out new replace kick down cable The other possibility is check the wiring loom. There is a wiring loom that goes to the gearbox .If its got corroded it can be the issue. It seems that there are two looms to the box, one deals with the selector lighting and the other is more significant, for shifting. Also if the problem is same then it might be a gear box modular fault it has to be replaced. Also check the disc and clutch too ...problem might with in control circuit giving a delayed signal. In case the discs issue would be proved then the only way to repair is to disassemble an auto gear box to reach this discs unit.

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

SOURCE: 96 Chevy K2500. Approx 170,000 miles Auto trans

Backfires are usually out the tail pipe on deceleration and can be caused by several things. First is the most common and that is an exhaust leak close to the front of the exhaust system. Other causes are ignition timing off.
An oil leak at a breather pipe will not cause a backfire although an engine problem can cause a backfire inside the engine that can blow breather pipes off which then can be an oil leak. To be safe, you should have a compression test run on the engine to eliminate that one as a cause.

------------

The backfire, bucking, sputtering, misfiring etc etc is most likely due to the gas still pumping into vehicle cylinder when the engine cuts out, then is overloaded with gas when the engine kicks back in.

It happens due to a rich mixture of fuel and it's bad for your plugs (ie it fouls them) and catalytic converters over time. That unburnt fuel ignites in your exhaust and you hear the backfire, sputtering.

You can also experience a popping sound due to gas flow through an exhaust. As you change gears fast gas flow is mixed with slow gas flow and a pop occurs due to the reverberations.---------

So get the compression test done, get the fuel pressure tested and this will point towards the problem.

---------

What do I need to do to make a ford overdrive Transmission out of a 89 van work in my rat rod?

Only things is to have the proper tv kickdown cable, lokar makes one for good price and if you don't have proper shift linkage, lokar also makes what you need for that, just be sure the kick down cable is adjusted properly or you'll burn it up.

You can check it by hooking it up to a computer. To me( I'm not any expert with Mitsubishi cars), it could be a relay(fuse) for the overdrive or the solenoid is bad. ATF fluid comes in 2 grades(Ford being different). There is really no difference in the ATF fluid you bought at the auto parts store and the dealership except in the price. The overdrive is electronically controlled by the switch to the solenoid, to the transmission. Check your manual to see if it could be the relay(fuse) first. I hope this helps

your kick down canble is called a detent cable but it had nothing to do with overdrive,if all other gears are working well it's probably your lock up switch for the converttor, take it to aamco they will do a free diagnois for you.

Newer tranny older truck

The cable on the 90 Suburban is not a kick-down cable, it is a TV cable (Throttle Valve) cable and it controls the amount of fluid line pressure through the transmission according to the throttle position, and if it is not properly adjusted the transmission will have shifting problems and it will lead to early failure of the transmission.

The electrical connection on the side of the transmission is for the electrical solenoids inside of the transmission that the computer uses to monitor and control the shifting and the kick-down.

The best thing for that truck would be a good Turbo 400 transmission.

It is possible to be a minor fix. But you may want to get on it asap to avoid being a major fix. Talk to the Commercial parts pro at your nearby auto parts store, for a shop that he ( cough, cough, they are supposed to be impatial) recommends/knows or Would take his car to.

Help...94 Suburban 1500 auto 4x4, I am changing

I'm pretty sure GM built your truck with the diesel engine as an option so there is a way to make this work. The trans shifts are based on a combination of ground speed and engine RPM so as long as the computer is able to get these signals your trans should work. I put an early 90's overdrive in a mid 80's truck and didn't plug the wiring in because the trans used a 4 wire plugin and my truck only had a 3 wire. It worked fine, even overdrive.
A little jury rigging and ingenuity should find a way to attach your current kickdown cable to the accellerator on the diesel pump. GM probably has a bracket to make it fit. Check with the parts guys at the counter. Hope this helps.

Adjust kickdown cable

If it is an overdrive, there isn't a kickdown cable. I would suspect something wrong with the engines output.

Shuttering at highway speeds

well the kickdown cable out of adjust ment would only screw up your shifting timing and when the vehicle downshifts when you press the accelerator hard. usually a shudder at cruise speeds 40 mph or higher indicates a torque converter problem or the govenor pressure solenoid and sensor. i personally would start by replaceing the sensor and solenoid and install a new filter
