We have a 2011 XC90. car would not start. Electrical is working. Message was start failure-try again. Could the extremely hot day yesterday have something to do with this? Thanks.

Initially, a couple of possibilities you may want to check/consider:

• weak/defective battery (most likely);
• loose/corroded battery terminals, electrical connectors (just a possibility);
• faulty charging system (least likely).

sounds like a bad battery or bad alternator.its going to be one of the two...have both checked

The ignition switch is faulty, typically the contacts burn for the 501 power supply circuit. That is the circuit that provides main power to head lights, wipers blower motor and a few other accessories.

Your immobilizer is enabled. Try locking/unlocking the doors with the remote five (5) times, this should remedy.

If there is a blinking car icon with an "X" over it. This icon means the Immobilizer has been activated and hence won't allow the car to start. It could be due to a bad SCU, Start Control Unit. The SCU is actually the ignition switch on these cars.
Most of the time it's triggered by the anti-theft system..You can try this trick i learned that the dealers won't tell you...try locking and unlocking of the doors five times with the remote to reset the immobilizer and see if this helps.
