My 2004 Saturn Vue V6 3.5 engine it makes weird noise when I first start it like it's got bolts grinding around in there or something

The owner says it will not move and it is the transmission that needs to be replaced. Itwill start and run but when in gear it will not move. Is this a ... 99 SL1 Manual won't go into gear

power steering pump low fluid or bad

this sounds like(no pun intended) you have a wheel hub bearing assembly failing. they will start a whirring or humming noise and then a growling or grinding noise the worse they get. from your description it is a rotational noise and gets louder and maybe a higher pitch as the vehicle speed increases. have this checked out right away so no further damage is done. they are not cheap assemblies as most GM and Saturn vehicles have the ABS sensor built into them(if your Vue has ABS).

i am a saturn tech and ive never heard of this concern,the columns do go bad but they just set a ses light and cut out power,the column could be bad,it could also be the intermediate shaft u joint binding,,,i rec take to dealer, could be serious

This could be due to several causes. I would start by making sure that the throwout arm on the tranny is being relaxed entirely when the clutch pedal is at rest. Also have someone else watch the action of the throwout lever (sticking out of the bell housing) and make sure you have around one inch of throw(movement) at that point.You might also find that there is an available adjustment on the shifter linkage to allow it to go into reverse more smoothly. Have you checked your wheel bearings? When these go out you can get a harsh grinding noise. This sounds like that is what it might be. Does it happen when you are going fast/slow turning/going straight? I know you said it's inconsistent but the more info the better. However, if I had to bet, based on what you have already said, it's your wheel bearings. Let me know if you have further questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

we have a 2003 saturn vue which we installed new tires on and we noticed a noise about 6 months afterwards. it sounded to my wife and i to be loud road noise from the tires. the car was driven for 6 months and we decided the noise was annoing. had the tires checked only to find it was the left front wheel bearing which was replaced and stopped the noise.

No is not hard all you need to do is remove the tire and it haves four bolt on the back. one is kind of hard to take out do to not much space to work with.
