2008 Chevy cobalt odd problems starting/ and giving out while driving.

So the car was having trouble starting for the longest time. Put the key in the ignition turn and get a single click with no start. After a few tries it usually starts right up. Car slowly died while driving a few weeks ago all the lights on the dash went off and the car slowly shuddered and died. thought it was just the battery but the road side assistance guy said it was the alternator. So I got both the battery and the alternator replaced last week and the car worked like a dream for about 3 days not click everything good. Then it started up with the click no start again. Sometimes it'd start right up other times it would take anywhere from 3-20 tries to start. Yesterday the car died on me again. dash went out power steering went out and nothin. i managed to get it started again to slug my way out but it was still having trouble. I should also mention that the car has just had the ignition lock cylinder and starter switch replaced due to a recall. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: 98 saturn sl1 won't start

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

SOURCE: clicking starter=car not starting

the battery is located under the rear seat, check battery connections. if connections are tight replace starter.

SOURCE: Car dies while driving, now it won't start sometimes

Could be a fuel pump that is going bad. Some times when fuel pumps go bad they cavitate and pump not just gas but also air. If you get too much air in the line and not enough gas the car won't start. Have a mechanic check your fuel line pressure.

2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

2008 chevy cobalt has trouble starting and has a strong fuel smell

If the fuel system is dumping too much fuel into the cylinders, the check engine light should be on and you should be able to get trouble codes from the computer. The codes would point you in the direction of the problem.
Is the light on ?

Could be the BTSI solenoid in the shifter, have that checked . You may have to buy complete shifter if it proves bad. This would keep you from removing key. Call you local dealer with VIN number and mileage have them check for the recall pertaining to the key rotation, yours may or may not be involved.

now what it sounds like is the key has a sensor built in it the keys cost around 60.00$ but this is most likely what is wrong. the sensor is a security feature with the car if the light glows while trying to turn the car then this your problem :)
