I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna Van. The steering wheel is locked and the key will not turn in the ignition. What do I do to release it?

there is a load on the lock pin in the steering column try turning the steering wheel a bit left or right to release the pin as you try turning the key.
Steering wheel locks never lock straight ahead as the idea is that if the car is being stolen it will turn a circle rather that move straight

Put one hand on the steering wheel and rotate slightly left and right alternatively whilst turning the ignition key at the same time with the other hand. This might release the steering wheel and start ignition.

check that the ignition switch wheel lock is disengaging completely and not catching on the teeth in the column. Check for seizing up joints in the steering shaft. Have a steering shop check it out as it is potentially dangerous

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

See if you turn the wheel and try to turn the key at the same time if it releases. We might get a free spot where the key should turn. The lock may be in a bind and pressure on it may release it.
Clean and lubricate the lock cylinder. Electric cleaner to flush the dirt and liquid graphite to lubricate. A substitute for the electric cleaner is a spray of isoprophyl alcohol.
You may also need to tap the assembly for the ignition switch to release the mechanical parts. See if you can get the cover of the steering column off to gain access to the ignition switch assembly.
Check also if the spare does the same, other wise the key may have deformed.

Sounds like you have a faulty Steering lock. Try wiggling the steering whell while turning the key, also make sure gear shift is park.

you may have worn front end parts , have frt end checked you dont want to loose your steering good luck.

first make sure the steering wheel isn't locked in a turned position. may be causing pressure on the release pin. if it still won't turn, you need to replace the ignition and keys.

this sounds like a rack and pinion problem
