1997 VR6 Jetta won't start intermittently on hot days.

I have recently begun having a problem with my Jetta and starting when it's hot outside. It will start fine in the morning or evening but during the day with outside temps of 90+ it will sometimes not start after stopping/shutting off (like a stop for shopping and such) for a bit. Letting it sit for a while seems to work though. After 20 - 30 minutes it will start again. Anyone have an idea where to start in diagnosis of this odd issue?

Just a thought , maybe change your fuel cap. may not be regulating tank pressure properly.

Ouch, don't let it overheat it'll cost you a new head gasket. You probably just don't have enough coolant. They probably filled it up and didn't run it to drain the reseroir and refill it. Check the coolant level, make sure it is full. Failing that, the thermostat might be stuck, the rad might be clogged if it's old, the new heater core might be the wrong one a too restrictive. I can't rememebr if my old VR6 had a ad cap but if it does take the coolant cover off the rad, start the car with it off... don't worry it's won't spit of anything, look down to see if the fluid is moving, if it is then you have circulation. Dont' run it like this for too too long as it will begine to Overflow. My bet is the coolant level bro. Cheers.

1997 vw jetta vr6 locked up on interstate

I'd suggest you look on the forums at Edmunds.com The problem you have is more likely related to it being a VR6 than a Jetta, but here is a search of posts which are about both:

MK3 GOLR VR6

Your cable from the battery needs to be in great shape. If this happens mostly when the weather is very hot, it is quite likely the cause.
