Most likely not the switch... I had two impalas both have the rail rust out on the passenger side window. When the window rolls down, it falls out of the rusted out rail and ends up on the wrong side of the rubber guide. When you try to roll it back up, the window jams on the rubber and wont go back up. In this case, it is not the switch, but rather the window guide rail.
is it electric or manual wind up? if electric it may have come off its rail. or the motor in the window is stuffed which will mean replacing, if manual, have a look because it may have come off its rail also
Hi,
It depends on how old your car is and the availability of spare parts in your area. The problem might be that the plastic rollers have mal-aligned on the rail thus causing the metal arm to bend. You will need to replace the engine set for the winder. I recommend you get the specific type for the model you are using to avoid future recurrences.
The problem with theses windows is the poor design. You will have no problem getting the door panel off but if you do not know what you are doing then dont do it yourself. Theses windows are retained by either a sash at the bottom or by a bolt with a metal rail at the bottom. If it is the one with the rail you wil need to check the front track bolt for tightness. If it is the one with the sashes, then you must remove the old ones and use a special adhesive to install the new ones. The door panel should be simple to remove. Just go slow.
First check what caused the problem. If the window was hard to put up and down then clean the running rails either side move the window up and down with your hand to make sure it is moving freely then just glue the window back to the track with glue recomended for it
